(2006 Axio) Help with dashboard knob

Postby purple_heart77 » October 17th, 2014, 4:50 pm

Hi All,

Can some one help me with a few questions on a 2006 4WD Axio (Parents brought and well we really don't know what a particular knob function is)?

First question, in the pic below we see the defrost, 1 depicts the front wind shield and 2 depicts the rear wind shield. We believe this is correct.

The next pic shows a button circled in orange when depressed illuminates an orange light. The car did not come with a rear wind shield wiper.
Can anyone explain the function of the knob?

Next pic shows the dash, when key is turned on "acc" to start, best pic I could get, the blue circle shows a red illuminated P/S?
Any idea what this represents?

Also my Dad told me today that someone indicated that the car runs on the front 2WD after the car crosses 60Km/h. Anybody can confirm that?

Thanks.

First - option to have the front windshield defroster on along with the vent for the front passenger and drivers feet.
Second - this is to turn on the rear windscreen defroster. Thats the lines you see in the rear windscreen.
The P/S Light - These cars don't come with a mechanical power steering system. Its all electric and the P/S light you see on startup is the system going through its normal checks. If something is wrong, the light will stay on after you have started. If it goes off, the system is fine.
As for the rear windscreen wiper/washer, I have no idea why the vehicle has this when no wiper or washer is present.
Also I don't know much on the 4wd system.

Thanks a lot for your responses.

That knob which shows a "rear windshield wiper / washer" is shown in the Axio manual, however it is in Japanese. The manual is also a scan pdf and cannot be copied and placed in Google for translation. Hence I came here for help.

Hopefully some else can chime on it and the operation on the 4WD system.

The vehicle as I understand it is equipted with AWD and not what we refer to as 4WD.
Essentially, what AWD does is transfer drive to wheels with more 'grip' when the vehicle senses the loss of traction due to conditions like slippery roads or roads with loose topping (such as gravel etc.).
The system is engaged by the vehicle automatically based on feedback to controller from speed sensor etc.
You can do a search of AWD to get a better understanding of this feature in present day vehicles.
Yes,when the AWD feature hasn't kicked in you will be actually operating as a FRT wheel drive.

Just to be clear, the car has a 4WD decal on both the left side and right side of the car. Hence me quoting it as a 4WD.

AWD is great as described above with the sensors doing all the work when to engage power to wheels as slippage occurs in other wheels.

Thanks for the input guys.

Just that button.

the light in the last pic.. in japanese is located on the bottom right of the dash next to the fog lights and head light switch.. this is for the wiper heaters ... it is for cold countries with snow. check under your wiper blades you will see copper lines under them under the windshield.
hope i helped.......
do you have fog lights?
