Advice on a Frank

Postby Glitch » August 13th, 2008, 3:30 pm

Yeah...

I have a 4g93T installed in my Lancer wagon (1994 CB) I also have a 4g92 MIVEC engine at home (fully working).

Can I use the 4g92 MIVEC head on the 4g93T? if yes what supporting mods will I have to do?

I am guessing ECU, Special Timing belt, maybe ARP Bolts. I am missing anything?

And can you advise someone capable of doing this kind of work.

Thanks

had a guy on tuner who did that same conversion in a PBY mivec lancer.....it can work as the coolant passages are the same...I not sure but I think as the stroke of the 4g93T is longer than the 4g92, the mivec engage point may stop at 7800rpm....basically you may need taller stiffer valve springs as that block will push the mivec head harder than it was designed to about 9000rpm (at which piont mivec stops working and loss in accell)...the best tool I can safely recommend to harness and maximise this added power would be the Apexi Power FC....any able bodied machinic should be able to do it

You will get more performance if you put 4G63T airflow meter, ECU, injectors and Turbo . Sell the mivec and invest the money on those parts. I've seen this work !!!.

Just my lil input. :D

Shaka, although I have to respect your advice ,you won't necessarily get more power than dohc 1.8 mivec.....I have heard these actually make more power...remember is only so much you that 4g93T can handle before detonation...also the new evo is a dohc 2.0 mivec power plant....so if he uses that 1.6 mivec head on on his 4g93T block the engine will actually breath better and have better mid - high end power than if he was to use those parts you recommended....I have seen both these projects on external mitsu forums and slips to match the HP output on both as I was also heading down that road...point to note also..the 1.6 head and 1.8 bottom end can be rebored and sleeved to accomodate bigger bore pistons e.g. 4g63 pistons

Isn't the big weakness of the 93T the rods that kinda handle moderate boost..I believe they not reliable after 12 psi.Wouldn't an evo setup on that block destroy it with the higher levels of boost that the evo turbo would be puttin out??

Not 100% sure so dont bite my head off :)

super_cadet,...no scene bro...we all here to learn....but yo, the 4g63 parts is wat shaka meant. In any even the pistons on the 4g63 are 2-3mm bigger in diameter, so for that to work will require reboring the MIVEC 1.6 head and the 4g93 block to accomodate the 4g63 pistons. The rods in the MIVEC head maybe stronger, not too sure about the stregth and neither can I remember if the rods were changes on external forums which I read about dem frankies

I see your point. Great info. I never worked with the Mivec, So I don't know much about them. But as you rightly said, We're here to learn. :)
