The Liquimoly treatment for the hydraulic lifters worked better than the Engine Restore for me.
But wasn't a long fix, lasted about 2500km which was about 100km longer than the ER.

But I beat the hell out of my engine and at over 400, 000 km it ain't that bad.

Them damn thing too finicky.

Different brand oil helps. Shell helix 10w40 works well. DO NOT use RP, sounds like a tractor.

Guys I recently acquired a 1997 EA1A VRG with rear disc brakes. Upon closer inspection and from reading the manual I've realised that the rear discs actually have brake shoes behind which are used for the parking brake. I would like to remove the discs to check the condition of the brake shoes but there are 2 holes on the 'hat' of the disc that the manual says bolts must be screwed into for it to come off. However it doesn't specify the size or threading of bolt needed. Has anyone ever removed their rear discs and knows what size of bolt must be used?

Also, has anyone ever had the need to replace those brake shoes behind the rear discs? If so, where did you get them to buy and at what price?

When the hand brake is down they can usually wiggle off. If not in my experience a 14 bolt is used to screw in and make it walk off.
As for new shoes if u can't get new locally or in the US u can also get the old relined.

Thanks Dave. The service manual for the US model with drum brakes says to use a 12 bolt to make the rear drums "walk off" as you said. I'll try some different sizes and see which works.

Where can you get old brake shoes relined locally btw?

Trinidad brake and clutch will reline if they don't have a set on the shelf.
Speedway used to reline also.
Believe constant velocity in south also does.

Just thought I'd update. I got two 13mm bolts to fit in the discs and take them off. Thanks again Dave.

On another note, has anyone in here ever installed braided stainless steel brake hoses on their Galant?
