What is the most likely cause of a scorched piston in an Evo, or any car for that matter? Thanks.

I'm getting that a lube problem is the most likely cause. Can a lean condition also cause this?

If the piston/rings have been changed, along with the oil pump and the injectors serviced,is the car still worthy of purchase? Or can a single scorched piston be a sign of other deeper problems?

need more history on the car.

If the car was runnign mods etc without as tune.... most likely it would have been the 23 counts of knock that would cause the car to drop the piston.

The worst that could happen is that u have a warped/ pitted head. assume 15-20k to fix.

On the other hand, it could be a lube problem if a too thin oil was used so it was not getting the proper pressure while running hard. This would be a more expensive fix.

... more info is needed to make a proper call.... but i would steer clear.

Car was working fine. Owner noticed a slight misfiring, called mech and towed the car. When they realized what the problem was, they did the repairs I mentioned earlier. Car doesn't have any mods really, just some elctronics( turbo timer,Apex'i piggyback)
