Anyone know how to reset the timing on my 4G93 GDI twin cam? Had sent it to a supposedly professional garage and they adjusted the timing and changed the belt, but it started having idling problems and was hard starting probably like a month later, a friend suggested that it had gone out of timing so i'm re-adjusting it myself....
Do u simply just line up the marks on the cam sprockets to the marks on the engine?
Just wanna be sure.... GDI is trouble b oy

reason why u asking is the same
Reason your GDI giving problems. Yes?
Faulty mechanics you included with no knowledge of the tech trying to fix it anyway.
Then giving it ah bad name which then causes the frustrated owner you included to swap out for ah SR20DE.
There are many competent GDI mechs around the country.... Next time Ask before you leap ok....
As for timing.
Your car will not start if timing is not dead on. Look for 2 dash on the timing belt cover still on the engine an the dash on the crank cover below should all be lined up with dashs on All the cam gears an the crank gear
Possible Your mechs messed something else up.

If adjusting remember the gdi engine belt is self tensioning, so if you make any changes DO NOT over tighten, if you do the belt will over tighten, burst and cause engine damage.

I don't think it would make sense.

Don't, tried it once, engine sounded like a boxer. Remember it's direct injection with very strict control of engine timing and fuel delivery, plus the exhaust smell wasn't nice at all.
