If a hybrid cuts that in half, you'll save 6k a year
Now assuming you have to put out 50k more for the hybrid, you're putting out 50k to save 6k a year on fuel
How long would it take for the fuel saving to cover the 50k you had to spend?
Unless a more fuel efficient car isn't costing more to buy, the fuel saving is an illusion
To put it another way, if I sell the Focus for an optimistic 60k, and i have to find 200k more to buy an Ionic EV. I will die before recouping 200k worth of fuel savings. It's actually cheaper to keep the Focus and absorb whatever maintenance costs and repairs it throws at me

Well, I hear and fully understand what you're saying, however, owing the vehicle is far more than just the cost of fuel for the vehicle.

Now the primary reason for the hybrid/fully electric is the impact on the gas consumption, the cost of which hits your wallet, but more importantly how expensive is it to own and operate. Massy has claimed that the service fee on the Kona is $795.00 for every 9months. I believe that the thing that might go quickly on those vehicles are the tires, when I had my hybrid, my brakes lasted and I think they're still on the vehicle. So overall the car is cheaper to own and run in the long term. If it's financially good for you to invest in an EV/Hybrid then I say go for it, if not and the Focus is able to stand the time, then keep it!

7 years / 120k kms of Focus ownership:
tyres twice
Brake pads once
Rear shocks: once
Rear sway bar bushes: once
Engine mount: once
TCM: replaced under extended warranty
1 wheel speed sensor
Air filter: twice
Cabin filter: twice
Spark Plugs: once
Faulty door mirror: replaced under warranty
Oil changes: every 5k kms
Battery: once
Wipers twice

Everything listed there are items you'd also have on a hybrid vehicle
So I'm still trying to what about a hybrid vehicle makes it inherently cheaper to own, other than fuel costs
The first three years of ownership of the Focus included free maintenance inclusive of everything except tyres and batteries. Down to wiper blades were free
If you're keeping the hybrid for 3 years, then yeah, it will be cheap to run, but sayin a hybrid vehicle is inherently cheaper to own makes no sense. If it were a full EV with no ICE, then I'd say you have a slightly stronger argument, but the maths not mathsing

Owning the focus same period 7yrs/89km (current mileage)
Brake Pads: 2 times
Engine Mounts: 2 times
Shocks: All 4 replaced
VCT Sensor: 3 times
Cabin Filter: 3 times
A/C Evaporator/Condenser: once
Air Filter: 3 times
Oil changes: done every 8000km (according to the service schedule)
Battery: 4 times
Cabin Filter: 2 times under warranty, once replaced by myself outside of warranty period
TCM: replaced 3 times, DCT serviced 3 times. Transmission software always updated with the latest 'firmware update'
Spark Plugs: 2 times under warranty, once recently replaced outside of the warranty period.
Wipers: 2 times.
Oxygen sensor: once, currently awaiting 4 of these units.
Thermal probe: refitted/serviced.

Most of the 'major issues' were encountered within the first six months of ownership of the vehicle. The A/C issue was encountered later and replaced under the all-in-1 plan. Based on the issues I encountered, I was given an update in my All in 1 service plan and moved from the 3yr service to the 5yr service plan.

Now compared to my X-Trail I encountered no issues from day 1. Again, my previous point stands, in regards to any new vehicle I'm investing in, will either be fully electric or hybrid. Back to the Focus, currently I need to replace my oxygen sensors, 1 oxygen sensor is $1,000.00 at the 'other stores', at the dealership 1 o-sensor is $3,500.00 and I need 4 of them, that's not 'Mathsing' at all with me and this vehicle!

Thanks for the "heads up" regarding the 'M dealership' as for the car, when it works it's a beautiful ride, with the exception of some 'creature comforts' such as no rear A/C vents, no powered seats, and a lack of interior room, I'd say that the car is a 'gem'. Again I can't stress enough how 'stable' it feels when you drive it, especially at 'speed'.

I guess it was just my 'misfortune' to pick up a lemon. The 'A dealership' stood by the car and resolved all the issues I encountered, also, they kept me abreast of all the problems and I respect them for being upfront about it, however, as I'm out of warranty with the exception of the DCT, I'm really not looking forward to anything else "jumping out"

yeah I can imagine
So far so good for my dct. Based on teh resale, or lack thereof, we have no plans on selling. Just continue to use it until something catastrophic fails
Even if I spend 40k to bring in a ecoboost, it would still be cheaper than buying a new car....yeah I cheap like that

I saw a lovely turbo setup kit from Toms on the Ford Focus Fanatics forum. Was really contemplating that, then Ford has their Mach-E engines for sale, so the 'mad-man' in me started contemplating moving to a fully EV conversion.....choices!!!!

400-450 km from a 40l tank of premium, depending on driving conditions
