Underneath the hood resides a 1.2-liter gasoline engine that can be had with a mild hybrid system featuring an integrated starter generation bundling a power generator, a lithium-ion battery pack, and the electric motor. Output stands at 66 kilowatts (88 horsepower) and 88 pound-feet (120 Newton-meters of torque), enough to allow the 4WD-enabled hybrid version run to 62 mph (100 kph) in 11.5 seconds and top out at 165 kph. That’s the fastest-accelerating version of the bunch, while the slowest is the non-hybrid 2WD model, which needs 12.2 seconds for the same task. As for top speed, the 2WD models will do 170 kph (105 mph) whereas the grippy 4WD ones will only reach 165 kph (102 mph).

Depending on whether it’s the 2WD or 4WD model and if it’s the hybrid version or not, the Ignis’ weight will vary between 810 kilograms (1,785 pounds) and 885 kg (1,951 lbs) for base models without any optional goodies, while the fully loaded ones will tip the scales between 855 kg (1,884 lbs) and 920 kg (2,028 lbs).

Suzuki has plans to put the Ignis on sale across Europe from January 2017, with other markets to follow.

Drove one in St. Lucia earlier this year, very zippy with a stiff suspension.
