Overheating grand vitara

Postby zaria » March 15th, 2020, 9:58 am

Hi
I have a 2004 vitara(gen 2)
It has the 2 litre engine
Bought used had a blown head gasket
Replaced head gasket, corroded freeze plug on block
And corroded top metal piping.
Cleaned alot of gunk out of block and hoses and flushed entire system as previous owner tried using a liquid head gasket repair.
Serviced the radiator.
There was no thermostat on engine during repairs and dint bother to install.
I used vehicle for almost a year(not much use prolly 10,000km) after repairs with no cooling issues other than engine being cooler than it should.
I finally bought a thermostat on amazon and installed
Temp went up to mid and stated there fir abt 5 mins and then would occasionally shoot up to red for a sec or 2 and then gradually come down
I figured I needed a new thermostat.
So I removed and continued to use vehicle for few months
Till I purchased an original in LSM and installed but have same issue
I tried bleeding as i figured its air in system so I jacked the front and massaged the top hose with cap open and a bottle in filler pipe to help raise level.saw alot of bubbles
But as engine heated up the coolant slowly came up and started to bubble out.
Temp on dash was ok but I could tell was overheating from the boiling sound of coolant
Seems the dash temp sensor when not in contact with hot
Coolant shows a mid level while CPU temp sensor picks up on overheat(prolly mounted differently) as it will turn ac off but the electric fan stays on.
Any advise?I'm thinking possibly a clogged hose for thermostat or bad wateroump, but during the repairs I remeber looking at water pump and saw nothing out of ordinary plus I was very thorough in flushing.
Advise please.
