this is interesting infofokhan_96 wrote:This year has been a frustrating year for meteorologists. All computer models predicted a highly active atlantic hurricane season to the extent where they may have run out of letters in the alphabet to name storms. So far, with half the season over we just had 5 named storms.
The issue sighted to the slowdown in activity is "dry, dusty air" from sahara, amongst other things.
An extraordinary meteorological event is unfolding across the Sahara, where tropical waves are unusually moving northward rather than westward into the Atlantic, contributing to an unusually quiet hurricane season.
The ITCZ has been about 2.3 degrees of latitude further north than average across Africa, bringing rain slightly further north into parts of the Sahara that are typically bone dry.
Let's see what the reminder of this year will bring besides meteorologists turning grey and weather supercomputers overheating.

We are at the peak of Hurricane Season and so far the Atlantic hasn't been that bad. Five storms by September is very little usually; strange, especially this Season, the pundits predicted above-average Hurricane Season. To me, June and July were pretty wet,, with August not so much.
We'll see how it goes. I know we get a lot of rain in October and November.
