Madam Speaker, the GATE Programme is expected to undergo several enhancements during the fourth quarter of 2024. These will include assessing approved students' ability to contribute to tuition costs, streamlining the processing of claims for improved efficiency and supporting the Scholarship Division with means testing for bursary applications, along with verifying programme eligibility for bursary
awards

Only a certified PNM lap dog would praise the PNM for mediocrity you never fail to prove me right wing. Meanwhile PNM is on shaky ground if they believe this copy and paste budget is gonna bring in votes. Try harder

More $$ for Prime Minister's office, Parliament, President.

THE Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), Parliament and the Office of the President (OTP) all received increased allocations for fiscal 2025 in the 2024/2025 budget.

According to the Draft Estimates for Recurrent Expenditure for Financial Year 2025, the OPM's allocation increased from $568,489,400 in fiscal 2024 to $ 778,796,200 210 in fiscal 2025.

This represented an increase of $210,306, 800.

The largest allocations for expenditure for the OPM were in the areas of repairs and maintenance of buildings and the operations of cabinet-appointed bodies.

The former increased from $361,500 to $50,000,000.

The latter increased from $32,000,000 to $35,000,000.

With respect to the projected increased expenditure for cabinet-appointed bodies, the majority of the $35,000,000 figure ($28,000,000) was allocated for the National Security Council (NSC), which is chaired by the Prime Minister.

Other members of the NSC include the Attorney General, National Security Minister and the heads of all the protective services.

The allocation for security services at the OPM was decreased slightly from $1,000,000 to $1,100,000.

There was also a decrease in the allocation for official overseas travel from $2,900,000 to $1,000,000.

The allocation for the hosting of conferences was increased from $650,000 to $20,000,000.

The Parliament's allocation was increased from $137,873,038 to $140,107,640.

The draft estimates showed the Opposition Leader's office and the offices of all 41 members of the House of Representatives were the main beneficiaries of this increase.

The former saw its allocation increase from $3,400,000 to $3,500,000. The latter's allocation increased from $36,500,000 to 37,000,000.

The current parliamentary session, which began on September 9, is expected to be the last one before the next general election, which is constitutionally due by next August. Under the law, next November is the latest period for the election to be held.

Compared to the OPM and Parliament, the OTP's allocation increased slightly from $19,535,400 to $20,408,900.

This increase was to cater to projected expenditure with respect to official overseas travel, hosting of conferences, and repairs and maintenance of buildings.

Those allocations increased from $300,000, $2,120,000 and $950,000 to $400,000, $2,500,000 and $1,400,000, respectively.

Top ten takeaways from the 2025 budget
FINANCE MINISTER Colm Imbert presented Trinidad and Tobago's fiscal budget 2024/2025 in the Parliament on September 30.

Here are ten things you need to know about Imbert's budget:

1. With revenue projected at $54.224 billion and expenditures at $59.741 billion, the budget will be a deficit of $5.517 billion. Oil was assumed to be at US$77.80 per barrel and natural gas was US$3.59 per MMBtu.

2. Health gets the largest piece of the pie with $7.571 billion followed by education and national security with $7.512 billion and $6.113 billion respectively.

3. The minimum wage for public sector employees will be increased to $22.50, an increase of 9.8 per cent from the national minimum wage of $20.50.

4. The chief personnel officer has been instructed to begin wage negotiations with trade unions who accepted the previous four per cent offer, for the period for the period January 2014 to December 2019. This would exclude the Public Service Association and National Union of Government and Federated Workers who currently have the government before the court. Government has decided to offer public sector workers an increase of five per cent for this next three-year period, 2020-2022.

5. Small and medium enterprises who are owed refunds will be paid in cash by December 31. Larger companies would be issued interest-bearing VAT bonds in fiscal 2025 in the sum of $3 billion with a target date for issuance of January 31.

6. Three proposals have been short-listed to restart the Point-a-Pierre refinery. These are CRO Consortium, US-based INCA Energy LLC and Nigeria-based Oando PLC.

7. Government will move to sell its 49 per cent shareholdings in Colonial Life Insurance Company.

8. All electric vehicle charging equipment and related accessories would be exempt from all duties and taxes.

9. Tax and NIS amnesty will be in effect between October 1 and December 31, 2024.

10. There will not be any increase in electricity rates, water rates or the cost of fuel.

True, sufferers complain but don't even need it. My limit from Scotia hasn't changed over 10 years.
