Scientists warn of ‘unprecedented’ risks of research into mirror life

A group of 38 scientists working in nine countries has sounded an alarm about the potential creation of mirror bacteria — synthetic organisms in which the molecular structure found in nature is reversed and could put humans, animals and plants at risk of exposure to dangerous pathogens.

“Driven by curiosity and plausible applications, some researchers had begun work toward creating lifeforms composed entirely of mirror-image biological molecules,” the researchers wrote in a report published in the December 12 edition of the journal Science.

Risks of mirror bacteria
The authors based the Science paper on a 300-page technical report that detailed the feasibility and risks of mirror bacteria.

The report said that creating mirror life was a longer-term aspiration of multiple laboratories and major funders of research as part of efforts to better understand life and potentially aid in the development of drugs and other therapeutics.

Transmission via animals and humans could enable the spread of such bacteria into different ecosystems. Jones, an expert in plant immune systems, said that mirror bacteria would be extremely difficult to detect in plants.

Not for bird flu but for seasonal flu. So ppl who work with or have contact with certain animals should get their flu shot so they won't get both viruses simultaneously. That can cause them to mix with each other causing a mutation which will allow bird flu to be able to spread easily BETWEEN humans instead of just animals to humans alone.

There's two ppl in that who normally never take sick leave.
My 35yr old cousin who lives next to me ended up in the hospital twice since Dec with Flu like symptoms. The first time he went Mt Hope the A&E was filled with ppl there for the flu and he left and went private one time.

Whatever flu/viral illness circulating is affecting ppl hard.

Bear in mind , u usually get a Christmas season flu because of all the mingling causing spread and activity draining people energy .
