Felippe Massa in life threatening condition....

Postby Silvermike » July 25th, 2009, 4:00 pm

http://www.planet-f1.com/story/0,18954, ... 73,00.html

After being hit in the head by a spring that flew off the Brawn car ahead of him.

He was knocked unconcious, his legs relaxed on the pedals, hitting both brake and gas as hit when head on into the barriers @ 125mph. He later re-gained conciousness, but was sedated.

He suffered bone damage to his skull, a blacken left eye, cuts to his forehead and brain trama.

There was a death in F2 Sunday as well. Just goes to show you that its not all glitz and glamour out there on the tracks. Hope he can complete this season after all this.

it looked similar to a socket in one video and a spring in the next, hope he pulls through but stronger helmets should be mandated

This is so freaky. Spring drops off from the car of his good friend and fellow Brazilian Barricello, bounces and flies at Massa’s head some 4 seconds behind.

And from the car of Ross Brawn, his former Ferrari designer.

Also notice how the Brawn advantage is rapidly disintegrating

I really do hope he pulls through to race again soon!

I dunno, I am sure the helmets they use in F1 are perhaps the most advanced head protection devices. For all you know that kind of protection may not even be available commercially. I'm just saying.

Thats because NASCAR drivers endorse companies that matter.

I agree with Duane...

plus them helmets hadda be light... F1 drivers neck muscles hadda be strong to hold the weight of the driver's head and helmet during them high G turns

Fack....this is bad news. I hope he pulls through without any lasting implications. F1 drivers, all of them, are a rare breed!

I know about the weight factor and they are most probably the most advanced in terms of racing helmets. I saw replicas for sale , but i just think that there should be more advancement in their design , if this tuned out more tragically more than once there would be a new helmet, so why wait?

"
The FIA has currently commissioned work for the development of a next generation 'super helmet' for Formula One racing, intended to improve safety standards still further, especially in conjunction with the now mandatory use of the HANS (Head And Neck Support) system
