people were saying about the no carrier logo thing to support the claims of moving away from at&t.

i agree with bez with that. btw
http://www.mobilecrunch.com/2010/06/10/iphone-4s-screen-may-be-tough-but-dont-think-its-shatter-proof/

imagine how effed up it would be to change the glass alone. That most likely will be impossible and hence you'd have to change the entire front glass and lcd. again... 3GS FTW LOL.

If you got a 3G though, by all means, this 4 will be THE choice no matter how badass devteam makes multitasking, etc. available

No worries 8)
Do what i told u before, Get the vcard(s) by the syncing manner. Then, transfer the vcard to your phone. (do u know how to use iPhone Explorer/iFunBox/iphonebrowser? or SSH via WinSCP?) and then get the iBluenova app from Cydia. Try to use iBluenova to send the file you uploaded (where ever you put it, say /var/mobile/Media). It's fairly straight forward. iBluenova works with 2G, 3G and 3GS and to almost all the phone types i tried (SE, Nokia S60v3/v5, iPhone, etc.) didnt try a deck though so it would be cool to know.

Any more issues/things to clarify you can PM me k

Keep us in touch.

and yes i know it can be a b!tch sometimes.

Just to let you guys know, M_2nr's suggestion worked. It was a bit of a run around method, but in the end I didn't need any extra devices.

Cheers.

If you'd rather avoid the lines at Apple and AT&T stores on iPhone 4 launch day, you have options this year.
Wal-Mart said Friday that it will be one of several retail outlets that will have the iPhone 4 on June 24, its first day of availability anywhere. While Wal-Mart has carried previous versions of the iPhone, this is a first that it will be for sale in its stores on the device's official launch day.
Wal-Mart is not the only alternative to Apple and AT&T, however. It's rumored that Best Buy will have the device on launch day, and Radio Shack employees have begun telling customers they have also been selected to carry the device starting June 24.
It could be a sign of Apple's growing relationship with fellow electronics retailers that it is sharing the launch day spoils. Or, it could be the realization that demand for the iPhone is strong and it wants to offload at least some of the typical crush of people going to stores to buy it the first day.
Apple said on Monday that pre-orders for iPhone 4 will start on June 15. Wal-Mart will be not be offering the same pre-order option.

------

In a rare vote of confidence, Apple has authorized third-party iPhone retailer Radio Shack to participate in its iPhone 4 pre-launch which kicks off early next week, AppleInsider has learned.

Radio Shack locations nationwide received a brief on the matter earlier this week, followed by a series of conference calls between Apple, regional Radio Shack managers, and individual store representatives, according to people familiar with the matter.

Those same people say store representatives will soon begin advocating the pre-order option to walk-in customers, who can then schedule an appointment for next Tuesday, July 15th, when they can return to the store and formally reserve one of the new handsets for pickup on June 24th, when device is scheduled to go on sale nationwide.

Several Radio Shack locations, including those which don't currently offer the iPhone, may even open shop a couple of hours early on Tuesday to field pre-order signups.

A spokesperson for the electronics retailer confirmed to AppleInsider that it had been authorized by Apple to participate in the pre-launch but said further details, such as per-store inventory allotments and the precise reservation process, were still being hammered out.

Radio Shack instantly became the second-largest third-party retailer of iPhones in the U.S. by storefronts when it began selling the iPhone 3GS in 3,000 of its 4,500 locations on March 28th. It joined AT&T, Best Buy and Wal-Mart as the only national retail chains authorized to market the device, of which only the latter operates more stores.

Radio Shack had been working towards that milestone since January, expanding sales of the Apple handset to hundreds of new stores each week, following a successful pilot program that began late last year in a handful of locations around Manhattan and its home base of Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas.

Radio Shack locations will also be touting their cell phone Trade-In Program as a means for customers to obtain a new iPhone for a fraction of the cost. Specifically, the program offers customers the option of turning in their old phone in return for a Radio Shack gift card that they could turn around and use towards the purchase of a new iPhone or other product.

For example, a previous-generation 16GB iPhone 3G that appraises "in fairly good condition" could net up to a $185 Radio Shack gift card, if it is tied to an expiring or expired two-year contract, bringing the cost of a new 16GB iPhone 4 down to just $14 before taxes and AT&T's standard $36 new phone activation fee. Similarly, a 16GB iPhone 3GS in good condition could pay up to $256.84 while the 32GB model could net customers as much $329.

In addition to Radio Shack, Best Buy, Wal-Mart and AT&T will also participate in Apple's iPhone 4 rollout on June 24th. For its part, however, Wal-Mart will not be participating in pre-launch reservations, the company said Friday. It remains unclear whether Best Buy and AT&T will offer the pre-order option to its own customers.

Apple may decide to organize two different WWDC events in the future; one for mobile and one for the Mac, according to HardMac.

One of our most reliable sources at Apple told us that the company could decide to organize two different WWDC every year, one dedicated to the iOS, iPhone, iPad, iPod, etc... and the other one to Mac OS X and the Mac.

Mac developers have voiced their frustration with Apple for focusing on the iPhone this year at the expense of the Mac.

------

Information from Asia Optical indicates that Apple is producing three million iPhones per month.

According to a DigiTimes report, Asia Optical chairman Robert Lai says the company began to deliver VGA lens kits for the iPhone 4 in May 2010, with a monthly shipment volume of three million units.

AppleInsider notes that at this rate Apple could break the 10 million unit milestone for iPhones sold during a single quarter for the first time. Its quarterly record is currently 8.75 million units. Research in Motion broke the 10 million unit barrier for the first time last fall.

------

In the wake of Monday's iPhone 4 introduction, Apple has been the target of sharp criticism from some industry watchers and rivals looking to dispute some of the claims it made regarding the handset's new Retina Display.

Apple says new display sports four times as many pixels as that of the existing iPhone 3GS, with a resolution of 960x640, 326 pixels per inch, and backed by the same advanced IPS (In-Plane Switching) technology used in the iPad. During his keynote presentation at the company's annual developers conference, chief executive Steve Jobs asserted that the resolution of the new display was higher than "the limit of the human retina," which he noted as 300 ppi at 10- to 12-inches away.

In response to this, display expert Dr. Raymond Soneira, president of DisplayMate Technologies, contributed to an article over at PC World rebutting the claim. AppleInsider has previously referenced Soneira's extensive display critiques of both the Nexus One and the iPhone 3GS. In his most recent analysis, Soneira claims that the actual distinguishable resolution of the human retina is 477 ppi at a distance of 12 inches. According to his calculations, the iPhone 4's display wouldn't be a true retina display unless it was designed to be held at a distance of at least 18 inches from the eye, much farther than standard use for a mobile handset.

Soneira's comments were picked up by several major news outlets, including Reuters, Fox News and Wired, some of which expanded on those claims to accuse Apple of false advertising.

As numerous blogs sites continued coverage of the matter, some of the facts became further distorted, causing an eventual backlash against the criticism of false marketing. Discover Magazine blogger Phil Plait (link 4), who previously worked on the Hubble Telescope, sided with Apple by noting that Soneira's math assumes perfect eyesight, whereas the average person would be unable to distinguish the iPhone's pixels at a distance of a foot.

Jobs' WWDC keynote also drew criticism for the use of comparison graphics between the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 displays that some pundits have similarly deemed as misleading. Digital Society, a non-profit think tank, alleged that Jobs during the keynote falsely propped the iPhone 4's dispay with graphics that show an iPhone 4 resolution as high as 815 ppi, and up to 489 ppi on a separate Apple advertisement.

Image

Adding to the controversy was global electronics maker Samsung, who joined the conversation by touting its AMOLED technology, which will be used in its recently announced Galaxy S, as superior to the newly released Retina Display. A spokesperson for the electronics maker told The Korea Herald (link 6) that although the iPhone has a higher resolution, "visibility difference is only 3 to 5 percent," while consuming significantly more power than its own technology.

Image

The LCD-IPS display used in the iPhone 4 is manufactured by LG, one of Samsung's primary rivals. For its part, research firm iSuppli believes that the competition between Apple and Google is bound spill over into a battle between LCD-IPS displays and AMOLED displays. Vinita Jakhanwal, a principal analyst for the firm, similarly sided with Apple, saying that while the Nexus One "upped the ante" for handset displays with its AMOLED display, the iPhone 4 "has raised the bar even further" with its LCD-IPS Retina display.

Jeff Carlson from TidBits has obtained some additional details about iMovie for the iPhone.

According to his sources:

● iMovie for iPhone will require the iPhone 4, and not be available for the iPhone 3GS. Handling video and creating real-time transitions needs the power of the iPhone 4's A4 processor.
● Projects edited on the phone cannot "currently" be transferred to iMovie on the Mac for further editing; projects stay on the phone. (The edited movies can be exported or synced to iTunes, however.)
● Video clips can be recorded directly within iMovie for iPhone or come from the Camera Roll (clips previously shot using the phone's built-in camera). It may be possible to email yourself clips from another source.
● iMovie for iPhone is scheduled to ship June 24th to coincide with the launch of the iPhone 4.
● The app is currently for the iPhone 4 only, and won't run on the iPad. Though Carlson suggests an iPad version could accompany the release of iOS 4.0 for iPad this fal.

iMovie for iPhone will cost $4.99 and be available in the App Store soon.

The pre-release of iOS 4 firmware to developers reveals that Apple is planning to include the option to export video to Facebook.

The max height and width of the exported video will be 480. The max frame rate is 30fps.

Apple currently support export to Email, MMS, Mobile Me, and YouTube.

A look at how much storage space you will need for photos and video taken with the iPhone 4 has been posted by When Will Apple.

Photos:
The iPhone 3GS took photos at 3MP. Each photo took about 1.3MB. The new iPhone 4 takes photos at 5MP which will increase the size to about 2.7MB per photo.

Video:
The iPhone 3GS records 640x480 video at 30 frames per second. Using a compression ration of 40:1, When Will Apple found that 250 mins of iPhone 3GS video recording took 9.66 GB of space.

Using a recording resolution of 960x720 at 30 frames per second, When Will Apple calculates that the iPhone 4 will use 21.73 GB for 250 mins of video.

It's clear to see that if you plan on taking a lot of video, you should definitely purchase the 32GB iPhone 4.

Comex, the same guy who developed SpiritJB posted a YouTube video of flash content running in Safari. It is important to note that it is a preliminary release. Maybe flash for iPhone is not too far behind?

Your wife loves chocolate, and you know she’s been eying that 1.5+ lb. bar at the local Trader Joe’s like a lion does a gazelle. She’s also a massive Apple fan who’s been dying for a shiny new iPad for months. Birthday time: the bar, or the iPad? If you’re a cheap SOB, you get the bar and call it a day. If you’re looking for an excuse to have an iPad in the house, you get the iPad. Or, you can do what this chap did and not only give her both, but fuse them together.

Not only did this guy encase the iPad gift in chocolate (after having carefully wrapped it in plastic first, thankfully), he had to have it shipped from London, England because they’re not sold yet in South Africa, where she lives. I don’t know about you, but I was cringing as I watched her slice away the chocolate with a knife from the precious prize within.

The sad part of this story, for me, is that my wife would be severely disappointed that she was shorted 1.5+ lbs. of chocolate for a piece of gadgetry goodness.

The iPhone 4 simulator included in Apple's iOS 4 development tools provides an early look at how much clarity the increased resolution of the new Retina Display delivers.

The iOS SDK simulator can render an app's images, user interface controls and text at the resolution of both the existing iPhone/iPod touch (320x480) and the new iPhone 4 (640x960).

The detail photo shown below, provided by an iOS developer, presents both images at the same scale, illustrating the difference the higher resolution density makes in text clarity and graphics.

Note that bitmapped images created at the iPhone's exiting resolution, including the "ai" logo and the "search AI" field in the AppleInsider mobile web page (shown below), are not affected by the increased resolution and will need to be updated to appear as sharp as the native controls used in the Safari app.

Text and vector images are rendered at the full resolution, however, without any work by the mobile app or web sites.

Image

This capture of Safari operating in landscape orientation with its keyboard visible shows off the additional clarity and sharpness delivered by the iPhone 4's new display.

Image

The iPhone 4's 326ppi TFT Retina Display leapfrogs existing high end Android phones with resolutions of 480x854 TFT (Verizon Droid, 265ppi) or 800x480 OLED (Nexus One / HTC Incredible, 254ppi, but drops pixels to deliver an effective subpixel resolution of 392x653) or 480x800 TFT (HTC Evo, 217ppi due to being a larger screen).

While a large number of the more than 50 million existing iPhone users worldwide are likely to upgrade to the new iPhone 4, Verizon and Sprint users who just signed two year contracts on Android phones in the last six months are unlikely to race out to buy the next higher resolution devices that become available, particularly given that US service providers are now forcing users to pay as much as $350 in early termination fees.

------

As it prepares to relaunch Windows Mobile 6.x as the new Windows Phone 7 platform later this winter, Microsoft hopes to woo Apple's iOS developers into porting their games to its new phones, and is backing up its hopes with cash incentives.

A report by PocketGamer said that an iOS developer informed the site that Microsoft was offering upfront cash to developers of successful iOS apps if they would translate their games to the new Windows Phone 7 platform.

The site says the costs of reworking games "remains too high," as it involves moving native iOS apps from C/C++/Objective-C code to the Mobile Silverlight/XNA development frameworks that Windows Phone 7 uses.

iOS app portability

Many iOS games make use of game engines such as Unity3D, which could facilitate porting them to other platforms. Apple created an exception for such titles in its revised SDK section 3.3.2 rules designed to outlaw app development using middleware meta-platforms such as Flash and Silverlight.

Top games and applications for Apple's iOS platform rapidly change as new titles emerge and users' interest shift. That makes paying developers to support another platform an expensive gamble, as Sony discovered in its efforts to woo iOS developers into crafting PSP Mini games for its portable gaming system.

The success of Apple's iOS App Store platform is based largely upon its being a large, cohesive installed base of iPhone and iPod touch users who readily buy new, low cost apps as they become available. This strong economic inducement for developers is much more powerful that any portability barriers, as is obvious from the fact that App Store sales have attracted many developers to Objective-C and Apple's Cocoa Touch frameworks.

Difficult to cheat the market

Attempts to cherry-pick successful iOS apps for Windows Phone 7 in exchange for money will likely result in a small number of games for WP7 that don't make much money for their developers, just as Apple's efforts to woo certain game developers such as EA to make games for the Mac haven't resulted in the Mac being a viable competitor in the serious gaming market.

However, Apple and PC game developers have worked together to make it easier to port PC games to Mac users, resulting in a shifting tide that has brought enough new titles, including Valve's Steam gaming platform, to prevent a lack of Mac games from being an impediment to Mac sales. Apple also supports running Windows natively via Boot Camp.

With Windows Phone 7, Microsoft is starting from scratch and an installed base of zero, making its efforts to attract developers to its Silverlight-based platform much more difficult. Scant sales of the Zune HD, which runs the same mobile XNA gaming platform as the forthcoming WP7, have also done nothing to attract serious development. And of course, no Windows Phone 7 devices will be able to alternatively boot Apple's iOS.

Apple on Tuesday released a new retail store application for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, allowing customers to find local stores, purchase products, read customer reviews and more.

The free application also allows customers to stay up to date with in-store events, and make appointments for Personal Shopping, Genius Bar or One to One.

Customers can also reserve the new iPhone 4 directly from their current iPhone, and don't even need to enter their AT&T account information. Version 1.0 of the Apple Store application requires an iPhone, iPod touch or iPad running iOS 3.0 or later. It is available in English and is a 1.6MB download.

The full list of features of the new application, according to Apple, are:

See new and featured products from Apple.
Shop the full selection of products available from the Apple Online Store.
Find the latest accessories and software.
Read customer reviews and get answers to product questions.
Buy or reserve a new iPhone with just a few taps.
Locate any Apple Retail Store in the world, instantly.
Make Personal Shopping, Genius Bar, and One to One appointments.
Sign up for workshops and events at your favorite Apple Retail Store.

Image

AppleInsider reported on the application on Monday, after two retail employees who were briefed on the matter shared details. Rumors of a concierge application for Apple's retail stores first surfaced last November.

Apple and its various wireless partners around the world prepared to launch iPhone 4 on June 24 began taking preorders for the hardware on Tuesday, though the new white model is unavailable.

As was announced at the Worldwide Developers Conference last week, customers can buy a 16GB iPhone 4 with a two-year contract with AT&T in the U.S. for $199, while the 32GB model costs $299.

Last year's iPhone 3GS, available in an 8GB capacity, is also available for $99 with contract, and all three models deliver on the launch date of June 24. Preorders are limited to two per customer.

On the Apple online store, the white iPhone 4 is not available for preorder. In addition, the model with a white front and back cannot be secured for in-store pickup. On AT&T's site, the white iPhone 4 is listed as "coming soon."

Limited availability of the white iPhone 4 was revealed on Monday, when an internal memo from AT&T suggested that supplies would be scarce at launch. That memo said that while AT&T stores will take reservations for the white iPhone 4, it will not become available until later this summer.

Both the black iPhone 4 and 8GB iPhone 3GS can be secured via free shipping, or with in-store pickup for the June 24 launch.

While the iPhone remains locked to Apple's exclusive carrier partner in the U.S., AT&T, some overseas customers have the option of an unlocked handset. An unlocked iPhone costs £499 for 16GB and £599 for 32GB in the U.K, and €629 for 16GB and €739 for 32GB in France.

Image

The new iPhone will debut next week in the U.S., France, Germany, the U.K. and Japan. Apple has announced that the iPhone 4 international launch will ramp up to 87 total countries by September, its fastest global deployment of a new handset.

Apple on Tuesday updated its Mac mini desktop computer, adding an HDMI port for easy connectivity to an HDTV, as well as a built-in SD card slot for grabbing photos and videos from a digital camera.

The newly redesigned hardware is just 7.7 inches square and 1.4 inches thin. It also has a built-in power supply, which means it lacks a bulky external power brick, which Apple said means the tiny desktop Mac takes up even less space than before, with 20 percent less system volume than the previous model.

"The sleek, aluminum Mac mini packs great features, versatility and value into an elegant, amazingly compact design," said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. "With twice the graphics performance, HDMI support and industry-leading energy efficiency, customers are going to love the new Mac mini."

The new Mac mini includes the Nvidia GeForce 320M graphics processor, which delivers up to twice the performance of its predecessor. It also comes standard with a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 320GB hard drive, and 2GB of RAM at the $699 starting price.

In March, AppleInsider first reported that Apple was building its first Macs with an HDMI port for high definition video and audio output. HDMI, or High-Definition Multimedia Interface, is a cabling standard intended for home theater, built on top of the computer-oriented DVI, or Digital Video Interface, specification.

Weeks ago, AppleInsider revealed that supply of the Mac mini was dwindling ahead of the release of new models.

Availability

Shipping today, the Mac mini is available through the Apple store, retail stores, and authorized retailers. The $699 model includes:

2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 3MB of shared L2 cache;

Even with its doubled graphics performance, Apple said the new Mac mini is still the world's most energy efficient desktop, based on products listed within the EPA Energy Star Small Scale Server database as of June 2010.

The new hardware uses 25 percent less power to less than 10W at idle, which is less than half the power used by competing systems. It also meets Energy Star 5.0 requirements, achieves EPEAT Gold status, has a highly recyclable aluminum enclosure, and uses PVC-free components and cables with no brominated flame retardants.

Included software

The new Mac mini comes with Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard operating system, and iLife, Apple's suite of applications for managing photos, making movies and creating and learning to play music. The $999 high-end model includes Snow Leopard Server, and allows a workgroup or small business to fulfill needs such as e-mail, calendar, file serving, Time Machine backup, Wiki Server, podcast production and more.

The mobile version of iMovie demonstrated during Apple's WWDC keynote will be exclusively available for iPhone 4 and will not work on iPad.

According to a report by Jeff Carlson of Tidbits, "sources within Apple" have reportedly noted that the new $4.99 mobile iMovie for iPhone requires the faster A4 processor in iPhone 4, but will not work on the A4-equipped iPad, at least not at the app's launch next to iPhone 4 on June 24.

Carlson wrote, "I suspect the app is tailored to the iPhone 4's higher-density screen, and therefore wouldn't work within the iPad's pixel-doubled compatibility mode," but Apple is likely to support high resolution iPhone 4 apps as running at their native resolution on iPad, where they consume exactly the same real estate on the screen as a pixel doubled iOS app designed for earlier iPhone models.

More likely, iMovie for iPhone won't work on iPad right out of the gate because it takes advantage of operating system features within iOS 4, which won't be supported on iPad until later this fall.

Carlson also reported that iMovie projects won't transfer to the desktop version of iMove for additional editing, although the movies it renders are in standard formats that could be imported into a desktop project. Movies can also be directly exported to YouTube, MobileMe galleries, emailed or sent as an MMS message, in Medium 640x360, Large 960x540 or HD 1280x720 formats.

The mobile app uses videos from the standard iPhone 4 camera roll, so it appears that externally shot video could be used as long as it conforms to the same standard formats for video shot by the iPhone 4 front and rear cameras.

if your talkin about the sim free iphones from uk they arent any requirements. u just pay for the fone.. u dont even get a sim.. my sister preordered mine yesterday for me. the actuall price of the fones are around 410 and 510 and the taxes bring them up to 499 and 599...if ur not talkin bout that then im falin...lol... but seriously...

i think this is the way to go if anyone is looking to get an iphone 4 ONLY if u know some one who can bring in the fone with them cause taxes and duties and shippin on this thing can be upwards of 2000 tt...and if anyone has the resources to get one from either UK or US i highly suggest u put up the extra money for the unlocked one from the UK because as i have stated on another thread the unlocks and jailbreak promised for iOS 4 are exactly that..promises for iOS 4 NOT iPhone 4. PEOPLE PLEASE GET THIS CLEAR... i have seen people promising an unlocked and jailbroken iphone 4 by the 27th....(im not tryin to bring down his sales BUT im giving you the facts for u to choose) ask anyone who has a bit of knowledge of the community for advice and they wud tell u the same.. i believe the 3g unlock and jailbreak took 6-7 MONTHS to be released and an unlock for certain 3gs STILL TO THIS DATE hasnt been released (obviously the community is MUCH larger now and much more advanced so i cant see it ever takin that long again unless apple hires CHUCK NORRIS or something for the security... once these things ship to muscle nerd and the rest of the iphonedev team, geohot, and all the other jailbreaking and unlocking teams then they can find out how compatible they are with there current unlocks.. each iphone hardware upgrade has brought about some tuff security patches..and rumors were goin around earlier this year that apple had hire a very stong team to work on the iphone 4's security.. so my point is u can buy one from the US and not have a clue when it can be unlocked or jailbroken or u can play it safe an add a few extra bucks and get one factory unlocked so u can use the phone and u wud just have to wait for it to be jailbroken so we can run all the apps we love so much from cydia and install0us..
