After reading the original topic, the article/comments and now this, my heart goes out to the family.
Depression is a serious thing, its not just a mood that you can change like clothes.
I understand what it feels like to be hopeless, feel as tho nothing makes sense and that its best for all involved if I were not here.

To the family, accept my condolences, may you all be comforted during this terrible time.

Please don't let the little girl think her daddy was a 'weak, good-for-nothing' type man, it will be hard enough for her as it is. No matter what he did or did not do, she still has her life ahead of her and should get the help and support that he needed but did not get.

Stephan and I met on IRC a long time ago, like 7 or 8 years ago, maybe even more. Everytime I'd speak with him he would ask me whether I still used Slackware or not. I know he liked his BSD. Some people think that to kill yourself is to give up and well, I just think that sometimes "life" wins and you lose. It happened already, there's no taking it back no justifications to give, no reasons to "make it okay" or "not okay" in anyone's head. He is the one that suffered through it and he is the one that is gone.I do hope his family can find a will and a way to move on and as for his daughter, I hope she doesn't grow up hating him because she may not understand it. I hope she grows up strong and radiant with positivity.
RIP Stephan.

^^ x2.

RIP dude. Never met the guy, (but I do remember reading threads about his civic, tuning, and whatnot).

It's an end that no one really deserves, but in that moment, it seems like the only way out.

We are all products of our environment. I meet Stephan in 1998 and thought he was a computer wizz. He was just entering his teens and getting to know himself. He seemed to have love I.T. and was way ahead of his age. If I remembered correctly he mentioned having a step parent (his sister can confirm) and even though that's not indicative of a 'broken home' I'm sure that would have affected him in someway or the other back then. (Needless to say, all homes are broken in someway or the other).

I lost touch with him and only recently met him back on Tuner. Unfortunately I didn't keep in touch. As a new father myself, I have an idea what it is to be a parent and how challenging it can be at times. Whatever challenges he faced, and what demons haunted him, let us not be the judge of character. None us should.

My only consolation is that he has passed on during the month of Ramadan. It is said the gates of heaven are open during this time for those who have passed on.

WoW!!! I just read this in the newspaper. R.I.P. Bro.

I sat with Stephen for a few hours discussing his Civic. This was a story I had planned to feature in the mag although in the end the engine was blown due to a fuel pump failure. What was striking to me was that Stephen built his engine himself with the help of a few friends.

He had sold his Civic and last heard from him (last week) he had gotten an Evo and finished the clutch with one too many hard launches. He had enjoyed 4WD handling and the new limits and assured me that he was taking his time to learn the car. He had aspirations of coming to dex and perfecting his mastery of corners. One day he had hoped to learn RWD once life allowed.

I am truly saddened to read this as Stephen struck me as one of those people who rallied through difficult situations with a forced smile and a quiet resolve. May he find peace.

ok so you removed my post...
if you did not understand then i will say it a other way...

too many times we have friends, and don't really know what is goin on with them, they say odd things and we just put it a side, if we really take the time and listen to the ppl we have around us, and give them some time, even if it is a minute, our our world will be better, before his sister, made her post, i had no clue, but i did know that something use there, but did nothing, "when next i see him i will talk tuh him"... i siad to myself
Trinidad is too small for anyone to feel alone and feel that there is no point.

so let us lean from the this ppl...
again:
Stephan, i am sorry, but i did learn, sadly the hard way. there should always be hope, no matter how small.

And onless it is a family member and ASK to delete my post...

RIP.....May God show mercy to your actions...

I met Stephan through a neighborhood friend in Belmont...he sold me a slim-line fan when i had just "turbo" my car in 2007...he was very helpful ...cool, kind person...was always interested in my project then because he told me he was going to turbo his civic...saw him late last year when he finally "turbo" his civic...he popped the bonnet and showed me everything he did...i was impressed because he did most of the work himself...his daughter and gf was always around when we spoke...

Sad to hear of his passing ...even though we seldom met...all my encounters with him, he seemed to be a very cool, friendly person....

My condolences to the family.....

Yes boy Narend, I now remember I spent some nights speaking with him on the EVO and what he was trying to achieve looks-wise. Guy was extatic with his purchase. So sad to see someone this young and full of drive take another path. I have dealt with people that are depressed and it is not easy, what is easy is to turn a blind eye to their condition. For those of you that recognize it early try and look for others signs and help those in need. To all the immediate family and friends, all please try to be strong and look after the young one.

How do you mean a man doesn't buy a gun to kill himself and depression and a gun = other dead people.

You mean to tell me no one in this world ever bought a gun to kill themselves? Or that every depressed person with a gun is a threat to other people? Do some research, gather your statistics then post things like this. You must be a professional psychologist!

And he was an intelligent person and premeditated his death, deciding his method to kill himself. Based on another victim of depression and suicide that he related to, a gun was his choice as that person also used a gun. Not all indians drink gramazone (sp) when they are suicidal!

R.I.P. - depression is a very serious thing and often not recognized by friends and family. I personally know two young people I would describe as clinically depressed and both families insist that nothing is wrong. Worse yet, both persons trying to "treat" their depression with weed and alcohol which only making things worse!

RIP my brother in *BSD, one of my closest friends and the father of my beautiful god daughter. Thanks for all of the well wishers, I want to assure you that his legacy will be well looked after, and she will lead as full a life as she deserves. If the family permits, I will share information in regard to the funeral arrangements as soon as they are finalized and communicated to me.
