i follow this plan:

-shave once a week (more shaving leads to sore skin)
-wash face well with soap / facewash
-soak towel in hot water and apply to face for 10 minutes
-use a sensitive skin shaving GEL (foam dont really cut it)
-using a fresh blade, swipe each area in the direction of hair growth ONCE (if the blade is dull, you will have to do it more than once, which leads to skin aggravation)
-rinse face with cold water (no ice water eh  )
-apply A&D cream to face (only if not going out. if going out, use a good sensitive skin after-shave or Tend Skin)

If you're not concerned with marking OP, I suggest you look into hair removal creams. And ensure you get FACIAL hair removal cream.

Only thing that has ever worked for me besides shaving powders and not shaving:

Shave like normal, but the next morning take a rough, dry towel and twist it till it's firm. Take the towel and rub all the shaved areas with it against the grain. Do this for at least the next three mornings after your shave. The idea is to lift the hairs and prevent them from digging into your skin. You might still get the odd bump hair and there, but for the most part you will be bump-free.

^^^ That leaves me too clean.
I shave lightly with the fusion to leave a scruff.
And rub it with my thumb after like ismithx. 2 blades lasted 2 years until last xmas. Bought another pack.
Gillette knows you can sharpen your blades and they'll last long. So they add all these gimmicks like sloe strip and blade guards. The guards actually make it harder for you to sharpen and keep the edge. The blade shown above will last decades once you have the leather strap to use with it. Hence the rub with arm/thumb making those blades last long.

Norelco. On second one, three years and going strong. No blades to buy. Cost about 35US in a walmart.
