still rockin an intel celoron 2.4GHz with 768MB RAM....currently being used as a machine that is always connected to the net for downloading and accessing files remotely. Ubuntu runs well on it though.
stev wrote:loud pop like a firecracker? possible blown filter capacitor in the PSU....capacitors on a motherboard or card rarely blow (but it happens). do u have another power supply to try it out?
watch out for voiding warranty on any parts if u diggin up in search of the problem.

Ok so today I removed the power supply completely and tried it on another system and guess what...no juice. So I think I'm sure now its the power supply.
I don't have another to try out though. Just hope none of the other components are damaged.
Btw I need to order another PSU...any recommendations. Looking at the Corsair AX 850Watt.

Think I'll be good with this???
Recommend something...

A few years ago, some 'inexperienced' electricians were working by me. The computer was off and I hear them working in the next room. Then I heard a loud pop (in my room) and something like smoke came out the rear vents in the PSU, and the computer wouldn't come on after. But it was one of them generic cheap PSU though. I opened the PSU and a it was a capacitor that blew up and a little bit of sheit had leaked from it.
Went and got another one for about $100 in PRW and the computer worked.
Bottom line, if you have a spare PSU, try connecting it up and see if it solves the problem. Also you can check your motherboard to see if any capacitor is damaged.
And in other news: it looks like the Titan Ultra and Titan LE coming soon.
If that LE is really $599 I feel that might be my next upgrade

Depends on your budget .
firstchoicett wrote:AMD 965 Quad Core about 1000.00
990FX mainboard Asus/gigabyte about 1000.
16 GB RAM --850
ThermalTake 500 watts and case about 1300
500GB---450
DVD RW --150
610 2 GB DDR3--595
That should do fine cost a little more.

For gaming thoThat's gonna be a pretty mediocre system for gaming, gonna hada rock games on low-med settings.
I'd suggest looking at a micro atx build and a gpu with at at least 2GB GDDR5 for today's games.
Anna J wrote:Gaming on a budget and you would recommend a 610???Not even an APU?
Anyways, I see newegg has that same cpu for US$80 but it may be for today only.
He could also get MSI 970 board for US$80 too.
I would probably suggest he get 8Gb RAM first and then add more (IF the need arises) Saw some 8GB in the misc.section for around TT$300
500GB for TT$450 is ok, DVDrw drive $150 too.
PSU - choose to suit the video card. corsair CX600 is currently US$65
Total so far usd(80+80+65) = $225 which shouldn't be more than TT$1800, then add TT(300+450+150) =900
Total $1800+$900 = $2700, leaving him with $2300 to choose a video card and case.
These parts are not bad, but I'm not actually recommending them. I just selected them to show an alternative.
I would suggest that he not try to cut costs on the GPU though.
