I think it's possible for an app to give notifications, like sounds and banners and not be in the Notification Centre.

Looking to make the change from PC to Mac, starting with my laptop.

Can anyone suggest which is better between the 13" Macbook Air and the 13" Macbook Pro w/ Retina display? I'm looking for an everyday use laptop mostly for web surfing, email, etc. One that performs fast with minimum to no lag loading and running software.

Retina display is a better screen than the regular one.

In addition to the several new user-facing features introduced by Apple for iOS 7, hidden settings inside the new system have revealed that Apple has been testing other new enhancements. Hamza Sood discovered the hidden settings options, and these toggles reveal additional gesture, multitasking, and folders options. The settings are not readily available to users of the iOS 7 beta, but acces requires some unspecified tweaking.

Notably, Apple is testing system-wide edge-swipe and corner-swipe gestures for iOS 7. These gestures would bolster the already present edge-swipe feature in iOS 7 for Messages, Safari, and a couple of the other pre-installed iOS apps. According to these settings, Apple’s testing of these gestures would expand to being used for quick-app-switching.

Video and more details below:

In terms of new functionality being tested, the ability to hide pre-installed apps (a feature that many users have been requesting) is present in these settings. The ability to create a new folder inside of a folder is also present. This function would seem more important in the old folders implementation as iOS 7′s folders system allows for multiple pages of apps to be stored inside of each folder. The option to pinch to close folders is also present in these settings.

Image

Other hidden settings are present for tweaking blur effects, coloring, and animation speeds. Because these are hidden settings, it is likely that these functions will not appear in future public version of iOS 7. These options will likely remain internal to Apple. Nonetheless, it is intriguing to see what Apple has tested (or is still testing) for its first major iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch OS redesign.

^ My wife has a 2012 13" MacBook Air 128GB, 1.7Ghz with 8GB ram and we use it for browsing (email, google docs, web apps), office, photo and basic family video editing and for those tasks it feels just like my desktop PC which is a 4.5Ghz i7 2600k with 16GB ram and SSD.

The new Haswell 2013 MacBook Air will be faster, better at graphics and use less power than the 2012 MacBook Air. The 2013 MacBook Pro with Retina is the same as the 2012 MacBook Pro with Retina.

Obviously the MacBook Pro has better hardware and a better screen, but you need to know if you need to spend the extra $$$ for what you want to do. Also the Air is MUCH more portable, easier to lounge with at the couch etc.

The 2.5Ghz i5 MBP Retina with 128GB and 8GB ram is only US$151 more than the 1.7GHz i5 MBA with 128GB and 8GB ram. I don't think you can put more than 8GB ram in a 13" MBA or MBP.

normally those newer drives are ntfs format. I assume those "mac" ones are hfs format. Mac can read ntfs format but cannot write to it unless u use a program.

From the amazon link above:

And for anyone claiming to have a problem using this drive with their Mac, this is all you need to do...

1. Plug in the drive via USB connection
2. Go to APPLICATIONS -> UTILITIES -> DISK UTILITY
3. Click on the hard drive icon located at the very top left sidebar
4. Select the ERASE tab and FORMAT in Max OSX Extended (Journaled). Assign your drive a name if you wish.

Boom

I can confirm that this method has worked for me. Another option is installing Paragon's NTFS for Mac software. FAT doesn't allow you to transfer files larger than 4 gbs I believe so for software suites and blue ray rips you will have to keep it NTFS.

Or you can use the exFAT format. No file transfer restrictions and compatible between windows, Mac and most media devices.

Been using it for a couple months with no problems

Good day people. I need a little info here. I am trying to buy "whatsapp" from the App Store, but can't figure out how to do it. I'm trying to pay via visa, but apart from entering the card number, expiration date and phone number, the address I believe seems to be giving me some issues saying something about info not matching up. Anyone ever bought an app and knows how to purchase them? Thanks.
