They have a $399 +vat package that offers about 150 channels (better channels than the $250 flow package), 10Mb Internet and free tstt to tstt calls.

EFFECTIC DESIGNS wrote:^ with Blink my pings were higher but nothing in the way that makes the game unplayable. As a matter of fact I only saved 20ms Ping with Flow which is still considered plenty but its not noticeable in gaming. The human eye can't determine this small difference when shooting in CS GO or BF4.

But with flow I get disconnected all the time, this is worse than playing with even 1000ms ping. But the 1MB speeds with TSTT was a pain in the ass, major pain in the ass. With this flow I could update my big library of games in no time so its a trade off.

But I understand why DSL costs so much money now. $700 for 10MB vs Flow thats $200 for 15MB.
But the way I see it, I could probably pay for a business connection from flow for $550 and still be cheaper than TSTT and not suffer any downtime.

But yeah DSL is top notch technology when it comes to reliability. Its a shame that TSTT has never decided to offer better packages, or implemented VDSL from day one. I think TSTT still has a good market to claim but their prices are ridiculous. Why Can't they offer 6MB dry DSL for $200 a month? This is reasonable and most people would gladly give up their 15MB flow for that package. No one wants to pay $40 a month for some stupid useless telephone you don't use.

20ms is a big difference especially in FPS games. that makes the difference between me playing at average level and at expert level

Agreed, 20ms is quite alot. On average, my DSL with Blink used to be about 5-10ms quicker than with FLow, and while that's not a whole lot, is the lag spikes that kills me with FLow, which happens every minute or so. I've realized that friends who have bigger packages suffer from fewer spikes, and I'm thinking these spikes are attributable to Flow's throttling. Bigger package equates to lower throttling, which equals less spikes.

That's my theory

20ms has never affected me "assuming we are talking sub 130ms. Yes 20 ms can be a lot depending on the situation. But most cases its nothing.

20 ms above 130ms is a LOT and 20ms above 150ms can render a game unplayable (if its a real FPS game). 20ms below 100ms is nothing, especially if you play FPS on a console, small differences in pings become even more meaningless because for starters consoles play most games at 30 FPS and the analogue stick has massive lag compared to a gaming mouse. Furthermore the netcode in console FPS games are tweaked to cater for high pings so you notice 0 difference, just look at Battlefield 4 and its sheit netcode for a perfect example.

The FPS game affected most by any form of latency that I have ever played is CS GO and still I have yet to notice a difference. A 100ms DSL that does not disconnect is night and day difference to a 80ms Flow that disconnects in the middle of the match. There are lot more factors in play like 64 tick servers etc that is an even bigger problem rather than latency. Refresh rate of your monitor etc

I would love to know what FPS games you guys play that you claim 20ms makes a difference and affects your skills. And please don't tell me its some console port or console game because that would be a joke. People who can utilize 20 ms difference are gaming strictly on a WIRED professional grade Gaming Mouse and specialized mousepad and a 144hz monitor with 144 FPS minimum.

I play battlefield 4 and I have done a lot of attack heli piloting. At that level you feel the lag and packet drop intensely. At 120 ms I can only fly average and at 100ms I can fly at the level of some of the better bf4 pilots. Lag also has a tremendous impact on confrontations, of course the person with less lag will see the enemy first and be able to react faster

BTW I play on a wireless mouse and a 60hz display

I play Street Fighter. Now I play on PSN hooked up to a samsung tv, game mode enable (between 15-25 ms input lag) so I probably wouldnt feel it as much, but when I played on PC, and could see my pings to people, the difference between 80ms and 100ms, while maybe not like night and day, is definitely noticeable. And yes, your probably are right by saying its much more noticeable over 100 ms.

^ SF4 uses delay-based netcode, Skullgirls has a form of rollback netcode called GGPO which is considered GOLDEN!!!!

So you are going to notice a difference with SF4 you will feel a difference, MKX is utter sheit fest with any sort of latency above 120ms. Killer Instinct's netcode is very good because it uses rollback as well, so latency will have very little effect.

BF4 has a netcode tweaked to cater for people with high pings because its a console port game, it is not noticeable even at 200ms ping. The netcode is also complete sheit, you die behind walls or rocks and this is not because you can shoot through walls or rocks its because you are still being hit from the delay even when you are hiding so you can die when you are not even being hit. This type of nasty delay is like 400ms. This is because BF4 is a console port among other things which is why it was rendered a total joke in the professional FPS tournaments and why CS GO continues to remain the KING in Professional FPS scene.

At 60hz even with better netcode you are not going to notice 20ms difference, its likely another factor in play. I play ARMA 3 with helicopters and trust me thats the game you can tell the difference because its a real military simulator and even then I still can't notice any difference. Its likely there is another factor in play, you will not notice 20ms at your current pc specs, monitor hz, wireless mouse and BF4 failed netcode.

up till i switched from blink to flow a couple months ago it was all horrible.

flow not doing any faviours either since there's always a connection timeout issue with the service.
