I would have preferred to see a Trinidad contingent in diplomatic talks or collaboration talks to bridge our education systems, establish new trade agreements, better immigration access to the US or something so at some higher level rather than a performance for their amusement..... similarly they had outsiders and slaves performing for them in the 1800s. Surely we can contribute to more than just entertainment.

Also something needs to be done to extend the shelf life of that music beyond a couple weeks.... even the locals don't care for it after listening for a month or so.

shouldn't the fact that Trinidad was represented take much more importance rather than what Ethnic or cultural characteristic was showcased!

Just like Sat.
what else can he say?
nothing of value

What you want them to sing? Rum is meh lover or the cat lick the butter?
Soca is the best music to represent Trinidad and Tobago.

Ever looked at the lyrics of your average soca song??
Apart from Voice this year almost all of the past 10 years of soca monarch and road march have been about waving a rag and or jumping on a stage or in the road.

Jess like chutney....

Same chune playing over and over.

Essentially local popular music lacks substance then???? No wonder it has no international appeal outside of the diaspora.

lmao this is so true the most music sold in queens/florida isn't soca but chutney ask the guyanese alone. Trinis in brooklyn only care about soca on labor day not all year round. Soca really isn't appealing anymore besides the older songs tbh

Trini & Gajanese diaspora get homesick yuh know.

Ravi & DDan tour gives them an opportunity 2 engage in homegrown cultural activities that they cyar normally do in forren...
