Yeast infection in dogs

Postby Emmar01 » January 18th, 2017, 2:27 pm

My dog developed a yeast infection to her underbelly late last year. The vet put her on yeast tablets but I don't think it's working too well, even though I changed her diet from chicken to lamb and cut back on all other snacks. There are still some signs of the infection coming out though, such as the smell, even though the dampness from the underbelly has disappeared.

Any suggestions as to what to do next?

Get a second opinion from a proper Vet rather than get assistance for something like that here...not saying some people here don't know what they are talking about but the majority don't and think they do and will advise you as such

Emmar01, think about this carefully eh.
Your dog has a topical yeast infection, and your "vet" says treat it with oral yeast tablets.
Who is this vet?

Anyway, if you really want some serious advice, threat it as you would any other topical yeast infection. Clean the area & keep it dry & aerated & apply a topical anti fungal ointment. keep the dog in a dry well aerated area as well. If the dog is prone to licking the area, put a cone on the dogs head to stop this till it clears up. Applying cornstarch to the area also helps keep the area dry.

is the dog a Neapolitan mastiff by chance?

I have a dog that has yeast overgrowth. Been fighting this thing few months now, really is a pain in the ass to treat with but I an getting results with change in diet and a few other things.
Yeast infection in dogs is a tricky one to treat. First thing is what caused the infection in the first place?
Some dogs can get it from allergies, antibiotic treatment or weak immune system.
Don`t treat with antiobiotics or steroidal drugs as they can make things worse.
Get a vet to do a skin scrape to determine what kind of yeast it present so you will know what coarse of treatment to take.
Change in diet is a must, yeast feeds off sugar so an all meat diet will starve out the yeast. Add organic coconut oil to the food and give organic apple cider vinegar, you might have to syringe feed the dog the vinegar cause of the taste also clean affected areas daily and apply tea tree oil.
Remenber yeast infection will not go away overnight it takes quite a while with proper treatment so stick with it.
Don`t forget don`t feed anything that has sugar or will break down into sugar.
I hope your pet recovers.

Yeast infection in dogs

Postby Reamos DC5 » January 18th, 2017, 6:25 pm

Hey brother,

Yeast tablets may help but not necessarily solve the root of the problem.

Washing the yard with TH4, trying a hypoallergenic food(grain free), Skin scraping or allergy testing are options.

My top vet recommendations are:

Dr. Gowrie Lalla

Corner Old Southern Main Rd
& Jonathan Trace, Cunupia.
665-9492
682-2646

And

North West Vet Clinic
59 Mucurapo Rd,
St.James
622-3356
^ they charge For the skin scraping ($240)
And allergy test ($1500)

Hope this helps.
