Actually went to an interview at Flow 2 months ago wow... God knew best.

Massy Stores seeming like they on the same path but saying no layoffs (of course they say that now but then 2-3 months down the road...)

People are really spending less and you can't blame them, you are literally stretching every cent to make ends meet.

Digicel also offered VSEP

That IT Sector very cut throat given its competitiveness.
Only TSTT wouldn't cut because State Enterprise.

Most companies are experiencing a fall off in gross sales of 25%-30%.
Unfortunately these numbers are indicative of the level of reduction in spending capability of average clients.
What is now posing real problems is available opportunities to reduce fixed operating costs.
I have always felt that over the last 10 years many going concerns allowed fixed operating costs to go wild, believing that income expectations could be likened to the 'sky is the only limitation'.
What has helped to exacerbate the situation is the total lost of focus on efficiencies of production and performance generally.

Ur correct about the optimist planning. Trinis always think things will be nice, they don't understand their risks sufficiently and honestly estimate how likely those risks might occur.

This recession is good lesson in not over stretching too quickly. The problem is that Trinis will not learn to ban their belly and pace themselves.

It is alleged that a fella from the Ministry of Finance said that T&T has money, it's just that it is in the hands of private citizens as savings. So by allowing the situation to deteriorate, more people will have to spend said savings to live. All the Government has to do is feign a little sympathy now and again, but they have in effect indirectly tapped into a source of funds to keep the economy going, funds to which they would not normally have access...well apart from taxes that is.

Thing is, when that wealth is finally transferred to the top 1% what do you all think is going to happen?... :|

Hundreds of short-term workers employed by the Ministry of Education are now facing uncertain futures after their contracts were not renewed due to a lack of funds to pay them for the next contract cycle. Affected employees said while initial estimates would run into hundreds, it could possibly cross 1,000.

Makes you wonder what all these people do on a daily basis.....
Trying to call the MOE offices is a waste of time and heard from a friends' review trying to get an update on her interview for teaching, she went in personally the staff are rude and were busy watching football on tv to be bothered to attend to her.

The high oil and gas prices in the past were masking the inefficencies in this country.
With that gone; everything is exposed. It is sad to be jobless though.

^ There is an international Call Centre that opened in Tamana two years ago by an American company called iQor and they have now expanded to Barataria (the 5 story black building close to Fujitsu that has ben vacant since construction). They are looking to eventually hire at least 1 thousand persons.

Since they do not service any Trinidad businesses - all wages, rent and other local suppliers they pay require them to bring in US$ and convert to TT$.

All the unemployed contract workers can apply and work in an industry that will actually provide forex inputs (provided they want to do that type of work) to Trinidad.

Do like the Venezuelans and take jobs "beneath you". Is either that or starve.

Oh yeah, yuh could teef too...:|

Speaking of which, with the impending increase in crime as a result of the worsening situation security companies who still have contracts sure to be hiring as well.

A long-time Doubles-man on my side close up shop because he couldn't adjust to the new reality. Over the past year his doubles got smaller and his price increased to $5, lost customers because people were getting better value elsewhere.

I think he's going to "plant garden"... :|
