The first thing is to create a new crypto coin nobody has ever heard about. Then you get people to "invest" in the new coin with the promise of healthy returns.

You can use things like wash trading to make the value appear significantly higher.

Once you see people buying in at that higher value, you have won.

And on the flip, what do i need to begin trading. I read that you need an digital wallet which you can signup for online eg Coinbase, use your credit card to purchase coins and begin trading. It that it?

make sure the wallet as well as the exchanges you use are secure & legit. was just reading how 17% of bitcoins have been lost. added to the fact that we could be looking at a bubble that may soon burst, though the person who predicted 10000 said it could go to 40k December 2018.

There are apps that let you set price thresholds and will alarm or alert you whenever the prices meets a threshold value. My advice is to find one on the app store, set your highs and lows, and sit back and make money.

Exchanges like poloniex let you do the same, but automatically buy or sell your bitcoin when the thresholds are met.

Let the bots do their work, that is, until they turn around and enslave us all...hahaha

I use the website itself. The app is just a "web view" version of the site.

The only thing about poloniex is that the exchange is between crypto currencies only, no fiat

From what little they have revealed about it, they are backing it with their vast natural reserves - Petroleum, Gold, Diamonds etc.

What are the other cryptocurrencies backed by i.e. what would be the intrinsic value should the market value collapse?

Barbados is entirely irrelevant.
The push is to remove the PetroDollar System and the trading of major commodities in USD.

Keep in mind the US will print or electronically create a unit of currency.
buy goods from elsewhere.
thereby receiving value for a unit of currency created out of thin air-backed by nothing.
So that USD is a open ended IOU from the US to the world.

that is only underpinned by the US being kept as a reserve currency...which is is propped up by the PetroDollar Arrangement with the middle east.

Venezuela has the nat resource capacity AND the cultural, geographic and historical ties to the resource rich LATAM countries.
Language and cultural differences were significant hurdles to the Euro zone working.
If they dont corrupt the process, after all it IS Venezuela
So a regional crypto currency is easy and once adopted WILL undermine:
PetroDollar dominance,USD as a reserve currency, and US law enforcement advantages through their dominance of the global financial system.....

people will be buying cocaine with crypto currencies.
Untraceable, and immediate.

VIVA ZAPATA!!!!!

Its likely that they will fck it up tho

Other cryptos are backed by utility, personal sovereignty and trust.

People like to always pose that "intrinsic value" question as if the answer could invalidate the value of cryptos.

The Intrinsic Value question is a valid one- an answer as you have posted is: Utility,Personal Sovereignty, trust, and I will add the belief that there is a wave of demand coming, and the future prospects.
Today the intrinsic value( defined as a valuation that includes both hard underlying assets and INTANGIBLE value) is 15000.
Today its all intangible PERCEIVED VALUE.

The problem is that those intangible assets are fickle and can change in a moment.
And the volatility reflects that lack of underlying hard value.

This closely resembles the early stage internet IPO rush.
You just have to grab the nuts and do it.

the difference is that the block chain the systems and currencies it supports is assailing the financial system as we know it.
So BTC is the poster child for that move and is in the ring with a series of 2000 Gorillas....all of whom KNOW that the block chain /BTC are an existential threat to their way of life.

And they make the rules.
They own the playground.
