Taxing junk food will stop the people who buy the product? Everytime KFC or doubles raise, people grumble and then go ahead like nobody business. It's like taxing cigarettes and alcohol. Makes no difference to the consumers of the addiction.

They need to tax the manufacturers to force them to use healthier alternatives in their products. I don't think that can work with KFC except portion size, but it will work well on soft drink, juice and and Big Sugar. How they pass on that tax to the consumers is up to them.

In the US, it can often be cheaper to buy the junk food meal than to cook
this coupled with lower income job and time constraints, kids etc make it more sensible for those
to do so at the cost of their health.

Here the franchise food is certainly not cheaper to eat than a cooked meal.

Putting the number of calories on the menu to me has a greater effect than putting a tax. Two could go together though and have that tax go directly back into the health sector. Same with a sugar tax.
