Hmmm....I wonder if any of this has to do with the fact that one of the largest fresh chicken producers in the country is really big in this current administration

Why Clarence doh hush he skunt? Concentrate on making local produce cheaper nuh and people will buy it. Even if the imported chicken's quality is supect, it selling like hot bread because it's one of the few meat products poor people can afford.

In anycase if it's the U.S. imports he's attacking this was already addressed last year.

US embassy defends quality of American chicken

The United States embassy is assuring Trinidad and Tobago consumers that they can eat US poultry with full confidence.

The assurance came via a release from the embassy following remarks reportedly made by Agriculture Minister Clarence Rambharat about the quality of US poultry.

Speaking at The UWI conference on “Revitalising the Buffalypso, Our National Treasure”, Rambharat reportedly said US chicken was inferior to T&T’s fresh meat.

"The United States takes food safety very seriously," the embassy said.

"All US exports of poultry must, by law, be inspected and only poultry produced in federally-inspected plants and receiving the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) mark of inspection can be exported."

The embassy said products exported to Trinidad and Tobago are held to the same food safety standards as are products produced for the US domestic market.

"The inspection and export requirements of the United States are based on science and result in poultry that is safe for consumption and exported to nearly 160 countries around the world. Consumers in Trinidad and Tobago receive safe and wholesome food, and the growing popularity of US poultry globally is a testament to that fact."

Has he provided evidence of aged goods being sold here ?
The bigger issue is most restaurants thaw the big frozen block in unsanitary manner

Very misleading video,
They seem to think exlayers are contaminated.

And as mentioned before, the thawing etc of bulk packed chicken is always going to be a problem,
Not the product itself per se.

I wouldn't doubt that there are unscrupulous wholesalers abroad exporting actual poor quality expired chicken but to say that all exported frozen chicken parts are contaminated is somewhat false.

This government really putting us to shame on the world stage. So is he saying TTBS don't look at imports? With taxes, shipping, FOREX issues, duties etc.... the thing still cheaper than local. Makes you wonder where he is getting his kickback from.

He trying to protect his local friends who sell poultry nothing else to see. USA is a first world country, their food safety standards are way higher than ours. Why on earth would anybody believe this level of hog wash from the PNM?

I mean we have a PNM AG so dotish and illiterate that he actually went on live TV and said Cannabis is a dangerous drug.

Eat KFC, Royal Castle if you must, not imported 'stale' chicken

While he not advocating fast food, Agriculture Minister Clarence Rambharat thinks KFC and Royal Castle are the way to go, if one wants some chicken.

Speaking in the budget debate in the House of Representatives yesterday, Rambharat said while Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar made “40 promises”, she never once spoke about the poultry industry in her presentation.

He said the protection of the poultry industry from imported chicken required a defence which the United National Congress (UNC) government failed to provide during its tenure in office. He said as a result the imported chicken gobbled up 20 per cent of the market because “successive governments failed to pay attention to food safety and failed to stand up to the United States”.

Rambharat said he dealt with the issue of imported chicken by establishing a requirement that chicken must not be 180 days older than the slaughter date. “Because you can bring chicken...frozen ten years ago in this country.

Agreed.
We also import ex-layers and it's quite popular here.
The issue in that video for me is (im)proper handling of the meat throughout the supply chain.
