Is it that TT ordered and is paying for approx 600000 surplus vaccines?

If we ordered Sinopharm for 750000 ppl, why are we taking also 800000 JJ?

Give back to Caricom.

We've gotten tens of thousands already as gifts from them.

Because Sinopharm isn't that effective and may even require 3 doses and two, we need as much as possible.

Our official population is 1.4M add all the Venezuelans and it's closer to 1.5M

Most vaccines will eventually get approval for teens as well so we need at least 1.2M doses.

I'd say we have enough now but the more non Chinese vacines we get the better. Especially if it's one dose vacines like J&J.

ordering and getting is two different things. the way things playing out now, plenty countries order a set of thing but when it actually reach is another matter.

The AU vaccines were ordered since April, but because of problems in the J&J plant in Baltimore, that did not seem like it was coming. They have since gotten a brand new plant in Africa to produce their own vaccines and we actually have a delivery time frame now. (keep praying, we need prayer more than ever now)

Because the economic problems faced by the government, Imbert made a loan agreement with China for several hundreds of millions of US dollars. One of the loan conditions is they have to buy goods from China, including specifically the vaccines.

From our perspective, we have a back-up plan in case one supplier (either the AU, China, or COVAX) falls through. Plus the J&J vaccine has the advantage of being one-shot - so wattless people, homeless people, drifters, people that flighty, just need to get chook once and you don't have to worry about catching them again. One dose of Sinopharm does nearly nothing, so J&J is the only option in those cases.

Does anyone know what the price of the different vaccines are? I've been reading much about the sinopharm being the most expensive and by a very large margin. It's one thing to make a loan agreement but how much value for money are we getting from that loan agreement is another very important aspect. I know we are hearing about non-disclosure agreements and low income countries but this puts more questions in my mind.

Canada says COVID-19 vaccine doses are 'interchangeable,' encouraging mix-and-match vaccines while the CDC still stands firmly against it

https://www.businessinsider.com/coronav ... nst-2021-6

Canada has released guidance saying that mRNA vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna are interchangeable, and that an mRNA vaccine can safely be administered after a first dose of AstraZeneca vaccine.

The move from Canada's Public Health Agency comes in contrast to the guidance from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which recommends that vaccine mixing be avoided except in "exceptional situations."

Here are the acceptable combinations, according to Canada's new guidance:

Preferred: Pfizer (first shot) and Pfizer (second shot); or Moderna (first shot) and Moderna (second shot).
Acceptable: Pfizer and Moderna; or Moderna and Pfizer.
Equally acceptable: AstraZeneca and AstraZeneca; AstraZeneca and Moderna; or AstraZeneca and Pfizer.
In other words, according to Canada's new guidance, people who received a dose of mRNA vaccine should be given the same vaccine if it is readily available, but an alternative brand of mRNA vaccine can be offered. Those who had an AstraZeneca vaccine for the first dose can also be the offered the same or an mRNA vaccine interchangeably, the guidance said.

The Canadian advice shows a clear preference for mRNA vaccines, namely those from Pfizer and Moderna. The AstraZeneca does not use mRNA technology.

The Canadian health agency also noted that due to the risk of people developing rare blood clots from the AstraZeneca vaccine, offering alternative vaccines was "ethically justifiable."

Canada currently uses vaccines from Pfizer, Moderna, and AstraZeneca, as well as Johnson & Johnson, which uses a single shot.

Mounting evidence that vaccine-mixing is safe and effective
Canada's updated guidance was based on rising evidence that mixing vaccines is safe and effective, including recent results from Spain, the UK, and Germany, the country's National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) said in a press release.

Mixing brands of vaccines against the same illness is "not a new concept," and has been safely used to complete vaccination against the flu, Hepatitis A, and other diseases, NACI said.

Several countries, including France and Germany, have already recommended using alternative vaccines to the AstraZeneca shot in younger populations for their second dose — without waiting for scientific bodies to prove that it is safe — after unusual blood clots were seen in very rare cases after receiving the vaccine.

By contrast, the CDC has said that if vaccine mixing occurs, it should be considered an "administrative error" that needs to be reported to the national safety monitoring system.

I propose the following:

The data we have on Sinopharm comes from a Phase 3 trial. That data has limitations, particular for older persons and persons with comorbidities. You can read the WHO summary here of the data we have on Sinopharm.

The evidence gaps are below (and this is copy/pasted straight from the WHO link above:

Evidence gaps
•Protection against severe disease
•Duration of protection, need for booster doses, and future risk of vaccine-associated enhanced disease
•Protection against variants of concern
•Safety in pregnancy
•Safety and clinical protection in older adults, those with underlying disease and other subpopulations
•Identification and evaluation of rare adverse events detected through post-authorization safety monitoring

But there is significant data on healthy adults in the age range 18-60 years old. So I propose we use Sinopharm on that demographic: healthy adults in the age range 18-60 years old.

Young people have much higher survival rates against COVID generally, so the difference in efficacy does not come into play much, if at all. A 79% efficacy vs 95% efficacy will not be a huge difference if your chance of death is already very miniscule because you are a spritely 20-something or 30-something. We would be moving this demographic from "no vaccine" under the current system to a 79% efficacy vaccine under my proposal.

But for older adults (>50) and those with co-morbidities (diabetes, heart disease, etc) - reserve the higher efficacy vaccines for them. And enforce it.
When do you get your vaccine shipment so that I can start paying attention to what you have to say about vaccine shipments?

Nah bro he's right. We are using Sinopharm wrongly.

Vulnerable individuals—including those who are obese, over 50 or have long-term illnesses—are being urged get a Pfizer booster shot six months after receiving their last Sinopharm inoculation, reported the Wall Street Journal.

While a government spokesperson told Forbes the vaccine offers a similarly high level of protection as other vaccines, the policy change comes after the country already started offering Sinopharm boosters while battling a Covid surge five times as deadly as India’s despite having around 50% of its population fully vaccinated.

Several other highly vaccinated countries that deployed the Sinopharm shot heavily are also experiencing severe outbreaks, with the UAE and the Seychelles both considering or implementing booster programs of their own.

Global concerns surrounding the efficacy of Chinese-made vaccines—notably Sinopharm and Sinovac, which have both been granted emergency authorization by the WHO—have festered due to a lack of public clinical data needed to verify manufacturers’ claims, deficiencies in the data that is made available and the widespread politicization of vaccines.

The peer-reviewed study from Sinopharm’s Phase 3 trial, published at the end of May, found the vaccine to 79% effective at preventing symptomatic disease, but noted the predominantly young, healthy and male trial participants meant it had “insufficient power to test the efficacy among those with chronic diseases, women, (and) older adults,” a concern the WHO echoed for older people.

The study’s authors also noted that no conclusions could be drawn from the trial about the prevention of both severe and asymptomatic disease.

Sinopharm did not respond to Forbes’ request for comment on this story.

Note the 79% efficacy being paraded around by Sinopharm isn't the same measure the other vaccine makers are using.

The 79% is reportedly based on preventing symptomatic disease. They aren't using the data where they test the individuals using PCR to see if they're asymptomatic.

If they did it's likely Sinopharm might score 50% of less which is why countries using Sinopharm are having huge outbreaks. Getting to herd immunity with Sinopharm might be near impossible.

Note how the other manufacturers are quoting their efficacy results:

Pfizer: 95 percent efficacy in preventing an infection in people with no prior infections.
Moderna: 94.1 percent effective at preventing a symptomatic infection in people who have not previously contracted a coronavirus infection.
Johnson & Johnson: 72 percent overall efficacy and 86 percent efficacy against severe illness.
AstraZeneca: 76 percent effective at reducing the risk of symptomatic disease after both doses, and 100 percent effective against severe disease. The company has also claimed an 86 percent effectiveness rate of preventing a coronavirus infection in people over age 65 years.

That said, still take whatever vaccine you have on offer, but as a country we NEED to get more non Chinese vaccines.

I don't anticipate any government policy changes coming out of posting on Tuner ever 12 minutes.

u never know who reads these posts

They reading TriniTuner instead of reading the same journals you all getting here . It’s all simple to procure these vaccines when and where we want

We should definitely offer to CARICOM, but some countries have significant vaccine hesitancy. We should send to Haiti. I saw recently they had yet to receive any vaccines.... not sure if it's still the case.

The Caricom members gave us when they had a short supply.

The least we can do is repay the favour especially when the supply increases.

Actually except for Barbados, the others only gave us their vaccines because their people refused to take it and it was nearing the expiry date. Rowley said this himself in one of the press conferences.

Right. I am scheduled for a AZ vaccine this Thursday. Taking a precautionary step of having some complete blood analyses done tomorrow morning to ensure nothing is our of the ordinary with blood counts that will have to be addressed before taking the shot. Once taken, I'll revert with any side effects.
