He did mention its jailbroken ...
Sometimes with the JB sbsetting can disable data + 3G but it would still show that its enabled on the phone itself...

Can solve your Facetime and iCloud issues in some instances.
Faster for me by tiny margin. (Maybe it's our location to the server that's not being taxed)
Doesn't seem to screw with Location Services too much.

I change back to Google's DNS from time to time.

There is a program u can use to determine the fastest DNS servers to your location. Open DNS is the fastest for Trinidad. Can remember the program name but I'll post my results after I check the router. Should be the same for all of trinidad

OpenDNS plus do this on your mac...

Close Safari, open Terminal and enter:

Code: Select all

defaults write com.apple.Safari WebKitInitialTimedLayoutDelay 0.2

See the difference in Speed. It just cuts down the rendering time to .2 sec instead of 1 second before page draw. The load time is actually longer cuz of the change, but the draw starts earlier. :)

Yea namebench right? I used it. It told me that DynGuide was in fact 1% faster than google DNS. It also suggested I use OpenDNS as my secondary.
I ended up using OpenDNS still for the while.
YouTube still buffers like mad.

If there is no change in plan then it should be working immediately.

moving a SIM card from one phone to another should not result in any delay in service. The phone company doesnt care what phone you put your SIM card in and they will not pause or stop service if you switch phones.

from your description it seems that the SIM was not cut properly, so while the phone is seeing a SIM card there it is not getting service because it is badly cut or an issue with the phone itself. It has nothing to do with the phone company.

Just go it to work. Played around around and set the network selection from automatic to manual. And manually chose TSTT. Now it works :D

There's nothing in settings that's complicated to cause a problem.
Maybe it's your router?

boy my router not even sweating with any load. I would try another one though. (currently running tomato on a RT-N16)
I switched the DNS to openDNS and noticed that buffering is much better but the videos automatically go to a lower quality. I'll have to check on that.

Notice my router IP and subnet mask. That is default for apple WiFi. Try using that?

probably not. I was bored and started cutting away an old one and it looks as though it was coming apart when I tried narrowing it down.
I believe Digicel also provides microsims so try to get one or one of the newer sims.

Cut the sim today using a template I found online. The sim works fine although digicel's service fluctuates between half and full service (i.e. 2 - 5 bars). Don't know why this is happening as this sim card was previously in a blackberry curve that always showed a full 5 bars service.

Then you can always sell me it :D
You wanna start over? What router you trying to extend the signal of?

Lemme ask.
You using the Mac/iPad/iPhone Airport Utility to do this?
Is the ethernet line in the room you moving the express to working for your main router?
Is your main WifI router an Airport Extreme or Time Capsule?
Did you "extend" the network or create a new network in bridged mode?

It's a linksys WRT54GS using Windows 7

I tried everything...then I read forums saying AE can't wifi extend with any non-apple router...

I managed to get "join wireless network" running though after pullin stones...airplay seems to be working also

Oh welll....really thought it coulda extend my range

No. Express is a strip down router made for the Apple ecosystem with is great at $99
You try setting up a new network and then bridging it with your existing WiFi?

It will be a me like a mirror wifi, not an extender.
Then again... Linksys.

Even the Cisco extender give issues

Only way I got to extend my wifi was the mirror two routers

Still haven't installed my express tho...

Thanks Strauss for the DNS suggestion btw... OpenDNS rawks!

BTW, pios... if all you wanted was to extend your range, why didn't you go with an el cheapo router, slap DDWRT and make it a bridge?
