Seems like English is a foreign language to you. I said he was an officer in the days of the FS.

The issue is right now we need a Flying Squad.

I already explained that part. Just take a look at the crime situation and see the need for it.

Tell me why we don't need it.

Question. How will the flying squad differ from the other intelligence units we have?

Car thief killed in shootout with police
Story Created: Feb 27, 2013 at 10:50 PM ECT
Story Updated: Feb 27, 2013 at 11:05 PM ECT
POLICE officers of the Central Division on Tuesday shot and killed a bandit after he stole a car, crashed it and attempted to shoot his way to freedom.
Police reports are that around 11 p.m., 27-year-old Garth Simmons, of San Juan, approached his victim, whose name was withheld by officers, while he was seated in his black Nissan B-13 parked along Factory Road, Chaguanas.
Police said the man was waiting on his wife who was at work at a nearby restaurant and bar. After he was robbed of his vehicle and other valuables, the owner of the vehicle went to the bar and reported the matter to the police who issued an all points bulletin.
The car was spotted near Saith Park, Chaguanas, and police chased Simmons who crashed the vehicle. Police say Simmons also shot at the officers after exiting the vehicle. The police returned fire, hitting Simmons about the body.
The injured man was taken to the Chaguanas Health Facility where he was pronounced dead on arrival. A .38 revolver and two live rounds of ammunition were recovered.
Police said Simmons was a known car thief who had previous convictions for similar offences.

See this bothers me. Anyone willing to steal cars, is likely armed and ready/able to kill. So why is this POS not lost in jail, in the first place?

Will take the good news though. Good riddance.

Farmer shoots orange thief
Story Created: Mar 3, 2013 at 10:57 PM ECT
Story Updated: Mar 3, 2013 at 11:26 PM ECT
A farmer, who caught a man stealing oranges from his property, accidentally shot him in the back and thigh with his licensed firearm on Saturday.
Farmer Tony Ramsubhag said he fired a shot in the air to scare the thief. But as he was lowering his arm, his finger got stuck in the trigger guard and accidentally caused the firearm to go off.
The suspect, who was running away, was struck on the back and left thigh.
Police said Ramsubhag assisted the wounded man out of the field and contacted the Emergency Medical Services.
The incident occurred at Ramsubhag's estate at Sunress Road, Charlo Village, Penal.
Ramsubhag, 52, lives at Debidial Road, Penal and is employed at the Penal/Debe Regional Corporation.
Police said Ramsubhag was attending to his crop when he heard a noise around 8.15 a.m.
Ramsubhag found a man on top of an orange tree and called out to him to come down.
Police said the man threatened to stab Ramsubhag with a knife. But Ramsubhag fired a shot in the air and the suspect began running away.
It was then the firearm accidentally went off and injured the man.
The 34-year-old suspect, of Sou Sou Lands, Penal, was taken to the Siparia Health Centre and transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital, where he remains in stable condition.
Investigators said a knife and two spent shells were recovered at the scene.
Acting Sgt Victor of the Penal Police Station is continuing investigations.

they does feel ah 'lil bad, so they try to do sum ting to justify the tax payers' dollars, nah.

but he should not have said that he shot him by mistake, it shows incompetence. what i was told by the people who attend the riffle range, that the instructors tell u in situations, that YOU have to decide to shoot. do not be half minded. either u don't shoot and get robbed like every one else, or u shoot committedly. it shows that u have sound judgement and a clear understanding of the situation, and could confidently keep control of the fire arm.

yes, i would like that more normel citizens get the opportunity to become armed, but only the persons competent to handle it. other wise, they would be a menace to themselves and others.

Bullets fly on Broadway: suspect killed
By Gyasi Gonzales gyasi.gonzales@trinidadexpress.com
Story Created: Apr 14, 2013 at 10:09 PM ECT
Story Updated: Apr 15, 2013 at 6:36 AM ECT
One suspect was killed, another was injured while another one was arrested following a robbery in Arima which led to a high-speed chase along the Churchill-Roosevelt Highway which culminated in an intense shoot-out between gunmen and the police at Broadway, Port of Spain.

The dead suspect was identified as 23-year-old Michael Headley of Factory Road, Arima.

According to the police shortly before 1 p.m. Headley and two other men robbed a man in Arima of cash, jewelry and a cellular phone following which they escaped in a maroon coloured Nissan Almera heading west along the Churchill-Roosevelt Highway.

The victim made a report to the Arima Police and an all-points-bulletin was sent out commanding officers on patrol to be on the look-out for the car.

Officers from the Northern Division also responded and went in pursuit of the car.

Police said that around 1 p.m. the car was spotted along the highway by officers of the Inter Agency Task Force (IATF) who began chasing the vehicle.

As the driver attempted to turn right to head into Port of Spain near the lighthouse he lost control of the car and slammed into two cars before ramming a gate leading to a Public Transport Service Corporation (PTSC) car park located opposite the corporation’s headquarters.

Police said that Headley stumbled out the car, raised a chrome pistol and began firing at the police who were closing in on him. While firing, Headley began running into downtown Port of Spain.

The police were forced to duck as bullets whizzed past them. They then fired back at Headley hitting him several times about the body. He collapsed on the ground and was barely breathing by the time officers ran up to him and placed him into a police vehicle and took him to the Port of Spain General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Another one of the bandits was injured as well and he too was taken to hospital while the third one remained on the scene for almost an hour being questioned by the police.

Contract workers who were carrying out refurbishment works at a museum located along Broadway called reporters to show bullet holes that had been punched into the building they were working on.

“We could have died,” said one of the men.

In fact, none of them wanted to be named.
One said that just outside the museum is a pond where live fishes are kept. He said that a woman and her son were standing near the pond when the Nissan Almera first crashed into two cars then into a gate.

He said that when the woman heard the gunshots she had to grab her son and hide behind some water tanks nearby.

He said, “When I start to hear them shots. I did not even know it was gunshots but when it went on me and them fellas duck on the ground.

Boy is like we hear a million shots dey.”

He said that seven of his colleagues were working on the building at the time while he himself was outside plastering the walls when the drama occurred.

He looked visibly shaken while all the other workers around him smoked.

“When I was on the scaffolding I hear two gunshots and when I do so I see when the red car (maroon coloured Almera) pull in and it bounce two other cars and the driver jump out and he fire and they (the police) start to buss shots behind he.”

He along with his colleagues pointed out three bullet holes in the walls of the museum as well as a smashed piece of lead (the projectile of the bullet) that was on the floor near where they worked.

“We could have been killed,” said another man.

In the meantime, Assistant Commissioner of Police North Eastern Division, Wayne Dick said yesterday that he wanted to specially commend all the officers of the Northern Division, North Eastern Division and Eastern Division for their diligence and commitment in the performance of their duties over the last ten days.

He said, “The recovery of this firearm and arrest of these suspects brings the total of firearm recovered for the past nine days to eight.”

He said that his officers also recovered 72 rounds of 5.56 ammunition along with several rounds of 9 mm ammo.

He added, “A quantity of narcotics inclusive of cocaine and marijuana, the arrest of several suspects involved in robberies and shooting offences are all benefits of an exercise which started on April 5 and is continuing.”

ACP Dick also beamed that in the last nine days they have arrested several suspects for murder, shooting and robberies.

ACP Mervyn Richardson also weighed in yesterday and reported that in the last 24 hours there had been very little serious criminal activity around the country.

He reported “nil” activity in the South Western Division, North-Eastern Division, Northern Division, Eastern Division and Tobago Division.

ACP Richardson added that Port of Spain recorded two Serious crimes, the Western Division four, while the Southern Division recorded three serious crimes during which two people were arrested and charged for the offence of kidnapping.

It's a sad culture that we've developed. It is made worst but the music and entertainment that these individuals are exposed to. Like children their minds are easily swayed and influenced.

FACEBOOK is a ‘legal’ showcase for criminals especially our local criminals here in Trinidad and Tobago.

They utilise this social networking site to maximize on their criminal activities and/or tendencies without limitation and without fear that their alleged activities will be monitored by the police.

This can be seen on profiles of persons allegedly connected with Sunday’s robbery in Arima, which ended in a shootout with police at the Churchill Roosevelt Highway near the Lighthouse.

One of the thieves was shot dead. The other two were subsequently detained by police officers, one of which is currently under police guard at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital.

The dead suspect was identified as Michael Hendy of Arima.

In one of the profiles, TTnewsflash saw a picture with two firearms that can hold up to 15 rounds of ammunition each. Firearms which allegedly belongs to the members of this gang. Of course, the photo is accompanied by supporting comments from their respective facebook friends.

TTnewsflash understands that the trio is part of a popular gang in the East.

In another, facebook profile of an alleged gang member. The young man proudly displays a large ‘spliff’, a marijuana cigarette in his mouth.

All alleged gang members are heavily tattooed and allegedly follows the ‘gaza’ clip.

So, the question lingers: Do the police really carry out thorough investigations on alleged suspects including the monitoring of their social networking accounts, of course where they can probably find substantial or supporting evidence???

Bandit killed in hold-up

AN armed thief who attempted a robbery at the Point Lisas outlet of KFC was shot and killed by an off-duty police officer on Tuesday night.

The suspect, identified as Cyril Saldenha, 45, of Montrose, Chaguanas, died on the floor of the fast-food outlet.

Around 11.30 p.m, the man entered the businessplace, which was filled with more than two dozen customers, and announced a robbery.

The off-duty policeman, who is attached to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, was about to leave the outlet, said a KFC employee, who did not wish to be identified.

The employee said, “(The suspect) said it was a hold-up, and he shot towards the cashier. He hit a tile in the wall. An officer who was wearing plain clothes told him to ‘freeze’, but he began to fire at the policeman. The policeman fired back and he got shot about seven times.”

Saldenha collapsed on the floor and died.

The employee said, “Everyone is traumatised. The workers who witnessed the incident did not turn out for work. They said they are frightened.”

The worker said the outlet had been robbed several times previously.

Police said yesterday that Saldenha’s criminal record revealed he had been previously convicted for similar crimes.
