rowley say it not available for we, we getting boot out. and given india problem, that is true. unless america gonna sell, we dont have coming in the quantities that would make it make a difference.

america is around 1/2 vaccinated. so that might be the only source.

as phillip said throw away all ur food from ur kitchen, bun u bank card and try to rally it that way. then u will know what goin on...

In February the US was manufacturing 14.5m per week.

We just need to purchase half a day's worth of vaccines to make a huge dent in our vaccination problems.

Covax is lagging behind due to SII and India keeping for themselves due to their rise in cases.

It simply amazes me that the country with the 3rd highest GDP per capita in the western hemisphere, can't source vaccines other than through covax.

There is almost no excuse for this ineptitude.

The US, UK, EU and India all have different levels of vaccine export bureaucracy.

T&T cannot approach Pfizer/Moderna and make a request to purchase.

The US did not put a de facto export ban, but have invoked US Defense Production Act which ensures the US citizens gets vaccinated first. Once there is an abundant supply in the US, then they can export.

Biden has indicated he would loosen restrictions soon and assist with Covax.

Rowley should be on his knees begging everyone for some doses outside Covax allocation, using the 700% increase in numbers as justification. Time to swallow your pride and do what any real leader would. Look out for the people.

Lol fine I meant GDP (PPP) per capita, if you discount Puerto Rico which is US territory and Bahamas is basically neck and neck with us, so as of 2019 we might be 4th.....still it doesn't discredit my point.

We routinely boast about our oil wealth, but when time actually comes to use the HSE fund for something worthwhile we skimp and sit back and put our faith in covax.

You have to admit this is quite embarrassing.

Re: Coronavirus - COVID-19 - 11706 cases, 185 deaths, 2689 active, 8832 recovered in T&T

Key Points From the Ministry of Health’s Virtual Media Conference – Wednesday 5th May 2021
- Principal Medical Officer of Institutions, Dr. Maryam Abdool-Richards provided an update on the parallel health care system in T&T. Dr. Richards stated that hospital occupancy is now at 58%, ward occupancy increased from 50% to 60% in one day and ICU occupancy decreased from 50% to 40% due to the deaths of patients.
- Dr. Richards announced that the hospitals designated for the Covid-19 response are predicted to be at full occupancy in 7 days time.
- The Principal Medical Officer of Institutions gave an update on the Government’s repatriation efforts. She indicated that 89 persons from Canada are scheduled to arrive today, 120 from Barbados on May 7th with an emphasis on students and 140 people from Miami on May 15th.
- Dr. Richards stated that there has been a disturbing and concerning change in the mortality pattern of Covid-19 cases, with increasing deaths being observed in persons outside of the vulnerable category.
- Professor of Molecular Genetics and Virology Christine Carrington, shared some information with regards to the P1 Variant of Covid-19 which originated in Brazil. Professor Carrington indicated that due to the mutation of the virus, the P1 variant is less easily neutralised by immune responses which leads to persons being re-infected. However she stated that the Astra Zeneca vaccine appears to still be effective against it.
- Professor Carrington also provided some statistics on the P1 variant gathered from studies in Brazil where the variant is prevalent. The Professor shared that one of these studies indicated that the variant is 1.7 -2.4 times more transmissible than the original strain. Another one of these studies inferred that the P1 variant is 10-80% more lethal than the original strain. Professor Carrington however, indicated that these studies have not been peer reviewed as yet and more research needs to be done before any conclusive statements can be made.
