United agree van Persie deal

The announcement comes after an intense period of negotiations and is subject to Dutch striker van Persie passing a medical and agreeing personal terms.

"Manchester United is pleased to announce it has reached agreement with Arsenal Football Club for the transfer of Robin Van Persie," said a club statement.

second signing for the day one for the future though
http://www.football365.com/news/21554/7 ... -at-United

The 18-year-old had a medical with United on Tuesday and was due to meet Sir Alex Ferguson on Wednesday to sort out his short-term future.

That could involve remaining at Old Trafford, or being allowed to leave on loan, either to an English club or his present team in Chile, Universidad.

United have yet to confirm details of the deal.

United prepare Baines offer

Manchester United's summer transfer business may not be finished yet, as ESPN understands the club is considering a last attempt to sign Leighton Baines from Everton.

Besides the fact he is short of options at left-back, Sir Alex Ferguson is a known admirer of Baines as a player and even considered a bid in January of this year.

United were expected to finally initiate a transfer this summer but, when it was made known to them there was a difference of at least £5 million between their evaluation and Everton's asking price, they cooled their interest and redirected their energies elsewhere.

But, with Ferguson having finally concluded a deal for Robin van Persie, the manager is understood have become a little perturbed again about the fact that an already overplayed Patrice Evra is United's only real option at left-back.

The club have let Fabio go on loan to QPR, with the coaching staff feeling that he needs to mature a little more at a lower level before they can fully trust him in a title race.

At the press conference to present Van Persie on Friday, Ferguson said there would be no more signings unless "a certain player came available" in "one more position". That player is understood to be Baines, with United looking at a way to make the deal happen.

It is possible, however, that they will face even fiercer resistance from Everton than before. Following the sale of Jack Rodwell, David Moyes will be unwilling to lose a second first-choice starter.

Meanwhile, Manchester United have also rejected an enquiry from Chelsea for Javier Hernandez. With the European champions lacking options up front and United suddenly enjoying a range of them, the Stamford Bridge club made an approach regarding the Mexican's availability.

Ferguson, however, has been determined to keep both Hernandez and Danny Welbeck, despite the signing of Van Persie.

Notably, however, Dimitar Berbatov was not mentioned when the United manager rhapsodised about his striking options earlier this week. The club have been attempting to sell the Bulgarian all summer in order to ease the wage bill, but, as of yet, there has been no serious interest in his services.
