Just some info for u guys,
its believed that when u use fish as bait in the same area u caught it, it spoils the "bank".
Many seasoned fishermen, mostly those whose livelihood is fishing, will tell u this.

Also, don't throw away ur unused bait on stone banks, that "spoils them" too

Yep i can personally vouch for this, using the same fish as bait runs the fish, if i pull a grunt i may use that for bait, they and the rest of fish don't seem to mind. And thanks francis , i had my suspicions cuz i've been catching lane snapper right through as you saw in my pic.

Lane Snapper : Lutjanus synagris
True red/southern red : Lutjanus purpureus
Dogtooh/pargue: Lutjanus jocu
Mangrove snapper/Black pargue: Lutjanus griseus
Vermillion Snapper/plums : Rhomboplites aurorubens (not really a 'snapper' though)

went out friday to see what all the fuss was about up la fillet. I saw atleast 25 boats in the area all anchored fishing live bait (we were the only ones trolling), saw the other boats holdin' endless bachine and the odd bonito but at the end of it all we held a single 10lb king after about 4 1/2 hrs...didn't see a single man boat a decent fish (>7lbs) in the very cramped area just off the point......so yea SALT!!!!!!!!!

kwl, on the issue of bait, anybody have methods for catching bait from shore?..not greedy grunt and stuff..think our local spanish sardines, bigeye, threadfins and anchovies. sabikis and cast nets?

meccalli, a pair of polarized shades, a couple walks up and down the shore and a cast net.....throw at any ripples or unusual surface movement and a cooler or bucket cah forget that
i've caught all types of bait this way from joshua to herring to ballyhoo...good luck and carry some beers cuz it never full-proof with fishing

thanks

I was running hard artificials all that weekend - so it was a yozuri or a rapala 8", bright fluorescent orange, but they were also taking the other colours, bright green, blue and red and white.

no hookups at all on the rigged ballyhoo or the skirts or a combination of them

take a look at the vid - I think you can see the lure we used on that one when we pulled it in
