minimum wage means they cannot pay less than that. There's no law against paying above minimum wage, hence your point is pointlessDizzy28 wrote:It is also up to Trinidadians to up their skills and abilities so that they do not even have to contemplate minimum wage labour to start with.
Many employers today try to exploit even qualified/trained/skilled workers, by offering & paying salaries far below what their qualifications & skill levels earn them.
A about 3 yrs ago I went to an interview at a well established (& very large) event planning & catering company in T&T, that was looking for someone to fill an accounting & managerial position. Said individual would be the only accountant there. I didn't want the position but I went to see what the job market is like & what salaries companies are offering/paying those days in the current job market.
Their requirements & expectations were:
Applicant with their own vehicle was preferred
Standard office hours would be 7 am-5 pm
Prepare salaries
Prepare & pay all taxes (including vat returns, NIS, H/S, PAYE for a few hundred employees Corp tax etc.)
Job visits (that would require the applicant to work nights, weekends & public holidays when necessary & as we all know, Trini's love to lime on a weekend & holidays) requiring use of applicant's personal vehicle
Collections management - collecting monies outstanding to the company
Payables Management - managing monies owed by the company
Asset Management
One must sit an exam to show them one's proficiency at the aforementioned tasks in order to be considered a suitable applicant.
Remuneration offered:
TT$4200.00/month
10 days vacation/annum-pending approval once it's not inconvenient to the company
Reimbursement for using personal vehicle to complete company business-included in gross salary
Scheduled salary increase-not applicable, salary may increase at the business owner's discretion(found out later on they increase staff salaries by an average of 6% on an unscheduled basis, sometimes 6 years would pass, no raise)
Health/Life insurance-not applicable
I politely thanked her for the information & wished her luck with finding somebody dotish/desperate enough to accept that kind of abuse, & walked out with her looking more than a little confused.

I traced his IP and reported him...probably eating bread and water in Immigration detention centre. Bantanamo was too good for him
