The government of Canada is giving Trinidad and Tobago over 82,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines.

The announcement was made via a news release by the Government of Canada Wednesday evening.

The following is the news release:

"Vaccinating the world against COVID-19 is our best chance of ending the acute phase of the pandemic, because no one is safe until we are all safe. Canada is committed to doing our part to support equitable access to safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines around the world, including supporting our regional partners in the Caribbean that have felt the impacts of the pandemic acutely.

The Honourable Karina Gould, Minister of International Development, today announced that the Government of Canada will share over 82,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine to Trinidad and Tobago via a bilateral agreement. These are doses that had already arrived in Canada, but are in excess of our domestic needs. Trinidad and Tobago was selected to receive these doses based on need and the country’s capacity to deploy them immediately, minimizing wastage, and maximizing the public health impact.

These excess doses will be delivered to Trinidad and Tobago in the coming days, and the Government of Trinidad and Tobago will manage the administration of the vaccines in accordance with manufacturing guidelines and public health best practices.

Well now ppl would be able to travel to the same country dat giving we AZ!!

They should really give ppl a choice now that we have plenty in stock. The AZ probably has a short expiry anyway so they should give ppl who want it to travel.

Uhm the vaccine is literally working far better than we hoped, only 0.0001% or 1 in 100k of fully vaccinated persons have died from Covid in the US.

If fully vaccinated your chance of survival from Covid is literally 2000 times more.

Even if that comes down slightly over time due to fading antibodies or new variants it'll still remain substantially higher than the risk of death if unvaccinated.

The gold standard of vaccines is the measles vaccine which has a 94% efficacy.

Did you object to taking MMR because it's not 100%?

Very likely that the people who have been waiting for their second shot will be called. That's currently happening in most other countries.

Biden Administration Planning to Require Foreign Travelers to Be Vaccinated

The plan is part of a new system to be put in place after the current restrictions on travel into the country are lifted, but officials have yet to determine when that might be done.

WASHINGTON — The Biden administration is developing plans to require all foreign travelers to the United States to be vaccinated against the coronavirus, with limited exceptions, according to an administration official with knowledge of the developing policy.

The plan, reported earlier by Reuters, will be part of a new system to be put in place after the current restrictions on travel into the country are lifted, but officials have yet to determine when that might be done.

President Biden has been under pressure for months to ease restrictions on people wishing to travel to the United States, particularly as other countries, including Britain and Canada, relax their measures.

But White House officials have said in recent days that there is no plan to lift current restrictions anytime soon, in light of the spread of the highly contagious Delta variant.

Shakes.

Not sure if you posted any updates... How are your parents faring after the second AZ? I recall you posted some pics of your dad developing some rash under his feet. Was that linked to the vaccine and have there been any further developments?

Curious as I had my second shot of AZ yesterday. Just felt kinda light headed during the day but had a decent night's sleep. Arm is a bit sore at injection site, but not as bad as the first time.

I thought they always made sure to do the double allocation except for one set when we were pressing the panic button and he said they would single shot the remaining az, so those ppl still outstanding ?

Moms is good. Dad went to his GP who said "hmph"...LOL!!!! nothing concrete regarding linkages to the rash and vaccine, but as I said it showed up after the 2nd shot. It has been clearing up on its own though. He is going to make an apt to see a dermatologist.

Whether or not the vaccine brought about something else in his system...no1 knows. Series of testing and doctor visits will have to follow to prove the theory.

I guess given that some batches of AZ was coming in based on donations and not scheduled and taking into account expiration dates they would have had to allocate a particular way where 2nd shots were hard to plan.

I know Racquet Centre is doing 2nd shots AZ this week (some of my coworkers have gotten calls to come in yesterday, today and tomorrow) but my wife has a 2nd shot Sino there on Saturday. Not sure if they use both on the same day or its one brand on any one day.

Won't a vaccine related reaction would manifest itself pretty soon after the first shot, rather than the second?
Just asking, genuinely curious here.
Hope all is well with pops.

Given the situation with my dad, he is still hesitant. Mums actually changed her mind and took the first Sino shot yesterday.

Side effects are more likely or pronounced after the second injection.

How's about this for a novel concept, your freedoms stop where you infringe on others.

If you choose to be a walking petri dish who can spread to others and be a host for new mutations, then it's your turn to stay at home.

He'll say vaccinated people can still spread. He'll ignore the fact that they are MUCH less likely to spread.

So do I - I take antihistamines all the time
I'm also allergic to Ibuprofen
But I took the Sinopharm vaccine and had no allergic reactions

Odds of dying if infected with covid is 2% (in T&T it's 2.775%)
Odds of dying from a covid vaccine is 0.0018%
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/

That's more than 1000x more likely to die from Covid than from the vaccine. (1500x in T&T)

Very faulty statistical analysis. What percentage of deaths are elderly? Its not the same odds for everyone

In all fairness the studies have shown that Pfizer recipients are 2-3 times less likely to get covid. But once they get it then they are as contagious as the unvaccinated for the first 6 days then the viral load drops much faster than unvax. We don’t have this information for Sinopharm and AZ. the former been shown to be a leakier vaccine for prior variants even so who really knows what our local situation would be. Vaccinating esp if Sinopharm is the vaccine of choice increasingly becomes a matter of personal safety, and less the safety of others. With that being said everyone should still take the shot that’s available to them if they care about their own lives

For the virus to mutate, it requires hosts.

Getting vaccinated lowers the overall chance of you being infected and becoming a host.

So you're correct in that if you want fewer variants to exist, then get vaccinated.

No one has a crystal ball and can tell the future, what we can do is mitigate against the risks which could arise by actions right now.
