The big expanse of water you see in the pics is actually a Sand pit that was quarried a couple hundred feet down in the Dry season... so it is very deep.

When the rains came the water table returned to its normal level and caused this massive slip, in the pics where the people are standing they are actually on what used to be a road that would have connected both groups.

I think Min of Agriculture should go throw some Talapia in that sand pit... the size of that could supports thousands of fish (or hundreds of thousands)

first off, this is not caparo, its between palmiste and todd's road.

Second, the 'gorge' is not as big as you think, the pond is a leftover quarry and the road and surroundings just got washed in with the higher than average runoff and well because its sand and the quarry operaters did a poor job planning the quarry site.

thirdly nobody lives there, that area is just the old caroni 1975 ltd orange field access roads that the trucks use to access the quarry, the people in the surrounding ares never even go inside there and so they didnt even know about the existence of the huge pond area before the cave in...this has been going on for years, the crater is no comparison to the hill and vegetation that this quarry destroyed...
