If for example, the victim was a 'bully' who was terrorizing the stabber's child would people be as sympathetic?

How de HELL you could fight a student? A 53 yrs old "big hard-back" Tanty/Granny!
The only reason parents should go into their children's schools is to meet teachers concerning their child's progress, to lodge a complaint to the teacher, principal, etc. To take their child alone or with the other student to the principal. Or to meet in a civilized manner with the offending student's parents/guardians.
Easy to say from outside looking in eh.....
But still,
JAIL...........

Woman charged with pencil stabbing gets bail
Friday, October 28 2011
While 17-year-old Mayleen Sharpe remains hospitalised one week after being stabbed with a pencil in her left eye, Sharpe’s attacker was yesterday granted $60,000 bail to be approved by a Clerk of the Peace.
Mary Elizabeth Anthony Farrell, 53, reappeared before Magistrate Christine Charles in the Port-of-Spain Fifth Magistrate’s Court yesterday where it was ordered that Farrell’s husband not be allowed to act as her guarantor.
Farrell’s husband and other relatives were present in court yesterday.
Farrell, a mother of four who lives at Imbert Circular Road, Diego Martin, is charged with maliciously wounding Sharpe on October 20, at St Lucien Road, Diego Martin.
The housewife appeared in court on Monday and was denied bail by Senior Magistrate Cherril-Anne Blake, who adjourned the matter to yesterday, and ordered that a report be submitted on Sharpe’s medical status.
In granting bail yesterday, Charles said she was not comfortable with allowing Farrell’s husband to take her bail, although Farrell’s attorney Theodore Guerra, SC argued that Farrell’s husband had a house valued at between $250,000 and $300,000 that could be used as security.
Arguing that Farrell had no pending matters, prior convictions nor was she a flight risk, Guerra yesterday confirmed to the court that his client had been taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital for treatment, as had been ordered by Blake on Monday. Guerra, on Monday, claimed Farrell had sustained injuries during the fracas that occurred outside the Diego Martin North Secondary School last week Thursday, and required urgent medical attention which he believed she would not receive while in prison. The matter was then adjourned to November 10.
