Excessive heat and overcharging batteries ( faulty alternators) are the main causes of damaged batteries.

Batteries can swell and even explode if your regulator on your alternator is faulty causing the battery to swell.

Optima used to make very very good batteries a few years ago when they were American made. I have one for about 7 years and its still going strong

In 2011/2012 Optima began manufacturing their batteries in Mexico and started to use recycled lead in their batteries. The lifespan on them have dropped significantly, alot of people are having problems after 1 year or so where the battery will just fail completely.

XS Power Offers a 3 year warranty on their batteries, and they are one of the very very few battery companies worldwide that still use Virgin Lead for their batteries. Typical lifespan for their batteries are 5-8 years. I know of some people who have them for even longer!

Pricesmart used to have some cheap Schumacher chargers.

If you are looking for something a little more high-end, XS Power has intellichargers ( 15 amp)

Na those intellichargers out of my budget.

Just a simple one to maintain the battery. I have a big Schumacher but I rather not move that around too much

Longest I’ve seen is Bosch…36 months. 1st 18 months is full replacement, 2nd 18 months is pro-rata rebate. Their price is abt $1300 or so IIRC.

Bosch batteries are waste of time... Especially their high end ones.
The Company I work with buys from different suppliers and I can say hands on, probably over a 1000 batteries pass through every year.

Bosch are the worst. Followed by ac delco
Best we've had so far was Power master both maintenance free and normal ones. And we get good warranty service from them as well.
We recently started to get atlas brand. Supplied by target trading. Holding out so far.
All the Bosch batteries and ac delco we had have been replaced by power master due to defects and failure also the Bosch batteries are bigger than the regular size batteries... Still a waste of time, Imo.

Me, personally use odyssey. Have one since 2008 and still going strong even when I leave it uncharged for long periods of time.
