Central businessman Riaz Mohammed appeared in court yesterday charged with the possession of guns and ammunition.
Mohammed, was granted $250,000 bail with a surety by a Chaguanas magistrate.
Muhammed, of Chase Village, Central Trinidad, appeared before Magistrate Gillian David-Scotland. He was represented by attorney Jagdeo Singh. Mohammed is the the owner of a car rental company.
Magistrate David-Scotland read the charges that on Tuesday November 29 at Ozone Park, Chase Village, Muhammed allegedly was in possession of a total of 167 rounds of assorted ammunition, three handguns, and an assault rifle, although not the holder of a firearm user's licence, thereby breaching the Firearms Act of Trinidad and Tobago.
The charges were laid indictably and he was not called upon to plead to the charges.
His bail was granted pending approval by the Clerk of the Peace. The case was postponed to January 5.
