I tried the turtle wax ice synthetic wax. Worked good. Left the car real shiny and smooth with decent hydrophobicity. Waxed carnival Monday.
Two week later (this past Saturday) I washed and used the Autoglym spray wax which, according to the bottle, has Carnuba wax. The vehicle looked good and surface remained smooth and hydrophobic.
Before waxing, I had to do a touch up pain on a part of the bumper I scraped. The straightener did a microfine wet sand, 3M compound and Meguiar's polish. So I am pretty sure that the surface was decontaminated.
The body of the car is very smooth. In comparison, I applied the turtle wax ice on a single panel of my other vehicle whose body was not decontaminated. There was a small amount of shine but the body was certainly not smooth as the paint was not decontaminated.
I'd recommend the turtle wax ice synthetic wax. It's pretty decent and easy to apply and remove while clearly leaving a protective layer. I'd also say from my small experiment that the body of the car must be decontaminated for maximum results.
