How dangerous is it to ride a motorcycle in Trinidad?

How dangerous? So dangerous that when I was even looking into buying one, every single family member, gf and acquaintance talked me out of it. Clearly not a good idea, especially with our roads and drivers already behind the wheel.

Vehicle operators do not even look out for other vehicles, far less pedestrians.
And you wanan be a faster pedestrain, with no protection from vehicles.
I see no reason to do so.

I have been riding since late 1980s.

I went ahead with buying by bike without telling anyone. I will not depend on advice from anyone who has never ridden a bike before.

Family members was upset and I did not give two 5hits cause none of them ever had a bike permit.

Agreed that there are idiots on the road especially from newer permit holders. With road defensive observations these dangers can be minimised.

My mishaps are from wet roads and gravel with one idiot that pulled on me on a turn.

Well I think I won't really bother with that idea, I think what really threw me off was when I called Yamaha in Trinidad they said that with the current covid situation these permits are being done by appointment and well I guess that can take forever.

Sigh some of these bikes look so cool..... had dreams of riding a customized Harley Davidson like this

cuz dude, Kawasaki making bikes for decades now , had plenty of them way back in the 70's & 80's, & they were considered as some of the best most reliable bikes back then.
I myself learned to ride as a very young fella in the mid 80's on my uncle's 1100. dem was good times

OP it depends on how safe you are and how good you can predict the outcome in under 3 seconds. 3 second rule.

I have been riding both Bicycles and motorcycles for donkeys. My simple rules are.

1.Never take a chance.
2.Never underestimate any road user, dogs too.
3.Always think an accident is waiting to happen on you.
4. Never stunt, no wheelees
5. Wear ur gear.
6. Always think a puddle is a hugh pot hole.

Have I fallen ? Yes, from wet roads and gravel. These are from non interactions with cars.

Interactions with cars? Yes, in my earlies and I have learnt from it and applied defensive riding skills.

Do I still ride? Yes , every single day except in rain

Best to watch YouTube accidents and learn.

I don't encourage people to ride , it's something that you need to want. Half of motor bike riders should no be on road same as car users.

Trinidad motor bike test is a real joke and it's why we have dumb riders that get into accidents without applying safety. Try passing a UK test for any thing over 125cc, it's takes about 4 road test and your age for a full permit
