Finally directions in Google Maps. Don't know how accurate they are but at least it's finally there.

Seems fairly accurate thus far, suffers due to possibly not having street names. Alternate routes may be more accurate soon.

Question though:
I've noticed that many times the PBR is involved in the directions, which is understandable, but given the fact that it is supposed to be for authorized users, can it be designated as such i.e. Private Usage?

Should be easy to change.

Anyone got turn by turn to work on it yet though? Most I could get is an overview of the route.

Lack of street names really. I'm of the view that once the street name is loaded, that it should and you would get "Turn Right onto (Named) Street" etc.

i tried one route using (android) google maps; route was almost correct but had one serious mistake.

by the way, turn by turn works (in trinidad) on MapFactor Navigator using OpenStreetMap data; or at least it worked on an android phone when i used it a couple months ago

lols yall should turn off automatic updates. im sticking with my older waze version. no problems, no need to update is my motto. download a previous version of the waze apk from the net and uninstall the new version replacing it with the old.

I use Waze daily. There is nothing more annoying than when you jump in your car, start Waze, begin driving and then realize that the thing just updated and you have to sign in and go throught the new user tutorial all over again... while driving... :?

Definitely turning off auto update now.

(i have my phone windscreen mounted and plugged in to a car charger for the "don't use cell phone while driving!" beatups)

I like that now they tell you not to use it while driving and needs confirmation that you're a passenger.

That's good thinking.

still find it annoying sometimes. The amount of times it almost got me stuck, routing me to roads that are clearly not passable but still sent me as it was the shortest distance

Do you use the iPhone 5?
Do I need anything other than the USB cable to use the iPhone with app radio? Thinking about getting one later this year.

^ the iPhone 5 with the AppRadio 3 requires a HDMI cable, a USB/Lightning cable (like the one the phone came with) and a Apple Lightning Digital AV Adapter

I have the Pioneer SPH-DA210

Yeah I checked there first with the series you mentioned above and saw it,will see if I travel soon to get it or just sky box it down for my vehicle.will even consider adding a reverse camera since it seems to facilitate that and all!

^ it can if you want it to. Otherwise it shows a splash screen with the Waze logo and the Pioneer logo and a disconnect button. I believe you can put the phone to sleep as well.

yes I use the reverse camera that came with the car (a factory Toyota reverse camera) - works great!
The deck also lets you turn on the reverse camera even if you are not in reverse.

DJ Q wrote:Was looking at the x2500bt

unfortunately it's not

x2500BT does not work with Android phones, only iPhone.

the x2500BT does not have HDMI out, only VGA, so you will have to get a US$86 Pioneer adapter cable plus a Lightning to VGA adapter for U$41.

Also seems the x2500BT does not have built in navigation so you will have to buy a AVIC-U250 at US$300 just to get a GPS antenna.

The AppRadio 3 has a GPS antenna that helps with the navigation and uses the data from your phone via Waze, Google Maps etc

The AppRadio 3 has a multi-touch capacitive screen so you can pinch-to-zoom (very useful for maps and Waze) and it's fairly fluid. The other Pioneer units like the 2500BT and even the flagship Z150BH does NOT have a multi-touch capacitive screen. The Flagship Pioneer Z150BH model is US$805 and the AppRadio 3 sells on Amazon for US$394.

For iPhone users, the AppRadio 3 has Siri Eyes Free. You can use Siri while driving to send and read text messages, make calls, set appointments, set reminders etc without touching your phone. Just talk and Siri answers through the car speakers. eg. "Remind me to call my wife when I get to Grand Bazaar". Siri uses the GPS and your phone book to handle this.

Thank you very much for the info.
Will look into this radio!

Hated the 2500BT because I couldn't get Siri... but this one sounds excellent.

You can't put the phone to sleep so the phone display must stay on. The phone is plugged in though and remains charging and won't affect the battery.

Hmm... The reason I asked is because lately, probably because of how I have my phone set up in the car, I find my S3's temperature is kinda high (actually got the "battery overheating" notification twice in the past 2 months).

I have the Note iOttie mount, on the right side of the dash, just inside the A-frame, to fit my black Otterbox Defender case (which I'm sure contributes), Tasker launches CarHomeUltra then Waze, Bluetooth and 4g switch on, screen is always on, and phone is charging.

Was actually exploring the idea of tablet car mounts today, with plans to use the tablet as a headunit replacement (still working out the kinks in the idea when connecting to amp, etc, was thinking to use headphones to aux on currently installed HU). Found some nice, but expensive, car tablet mount solutions here if anyone might be interested http://padholdr.com/ipad-mounts-for-cars-trucks/.

The AppRadio line (or anything with the MirrorLink/DriveLink tech) is quite appealing though...

I think this line (AppRadio, tablet/phone mounting, etc) might be able to benefit from a separate thread if you wouldn't want to pollute the Waze/nav thread.

^quick question regarding the "battery overheating" notification.Built in or App? I myself find my iphone5 getting pretty hot while charging and using waze, then again, its in a Lunatik Taktik Extreme,so i dunno if that has anything to do with it as well
