‘A real opportunity’: Israel urges Ukrainian Jews to immigrate

About 100 Ukrainian Jews have arrived in Israel and government officials say some 10,000 are expected in the coming weeks.

Occupied East Jerusalem – Israel is keen on bringing in Ukrainian Jewish refugees for the purpose of maintaining Jewish demographic “supremacy” over the Palestinian population, academics and analysts say.

Since the outbreak of the war with Russia on February 24, the Israeli government has called on Ukrainian Jewish refugees to immigrate to Israel and removed bureaucratic hurdles to secure their arrival as quickly as possible.

“We call on the Jews of Ukraine to immigrate to Israel – your home,” Israel’s Ministry of Immigration and Absorption said in a statement on February 26.

So far, at least 100 Ukrainian Jews arrived on two flights, one from Kyiv and another from Odesa. Some 300 others will arrive on three flights on Sunday. Government officials said some 10,000 are expected to arrive in the coming weeks.

On Sunday, the World Zionist Organization’s Settlement Division – which is funded by the Israeli government and falls under its direct control – announced the building of 1,000 housing structures for Ukrainian Jewish families in both Israel and settlements in the illegally occupied Palestinian territories.

“Israel is seeing in the Ukraine crisis a real opportunity to bring Jewish people to increase the number of Jews in Israel,” Lana Tatour, professor of settler-colonialism and human rights at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia, told Al Jazeera.

“While it is important to recognise that there is a real refugee crisis in Ukraine,” which “everyone has a duty to care for”, Tatour said it must be noted that “Israel is not opening its borders for Ukrainian refugees – it is opening its borders for Jewish Ukrainian refugees.”

The stories coming out have shown images to the world which demonstrate how brutal Mr Putin's war really is.
In fact it is difficult to conceive a rational justification to explain efforts to injury, to kill so many souls.
A country of people who may embrace a decision to fight in preference to flight since they now are placed in this terminal position would most certainly yield sustained turmoil and inflame hatred for generations.
Mr Putin must know he is cultivating another significant group of life long enemies who may have no problem with hastening his end of days.
DEATH can become inconsequential for people who have had their reasons for living taken away.

Ever notice that Israel has been annexing land that isn't theirs, bombing civilians etc for years, but no western governments have responded with any kind of sanctions or condemnation the same way they did to Russia? Amnesty International and the UN have released many reports about their war crimes, but the US always blocks any action toward Israel.

US lawmakers pledge to release $10 billion in aid to Ukraine's Zelensky

WASHINGTON — US lawmakers pledged in a video call on Saturday with Ukraine's president to provide a further $10 billion in assistance as the besieged country faces a Russian onslaught.

In the call with American legislators of both parties, President Volodymyr Zelensky reiterated a plea for Russian-made planes.

The US Senate majority leader, Chuck Schumer, cited by a source briefed on the call, said Democrats and Republicans were "working very hard" towards passing the relief package.

"We will get that assistance of over $10 billion in economic, humanitarian and security assistance to the Ukrainian people quickly," he said.

The bipartisan effort was underlined by Republican Senator Steve Daines, who told Fox News after the call that lawmakers were "unified in our support for Ukraine".

"We need to pass this $10 billion relief package," he said, adding that half would go toward humanitarian aid and half would be in military assistance.

"They need more force on the ground," he said, as Russian units pressed their offensive in Ukraine for a tenth day.
