I see there was a good bit of activity here & there has been a good bit of Apple related activity as well (& something Top Gear related as well (for another thread, M_2NR lol))

As some users start receiving their Verizon iPhone, folks at iFixit and iFixyouri have got their hands on one of them and done what every geek would love to do i.e. to crack open Apple's CDMA iPhone 4 to see what's inside.
Here are some of the interesting details from iFixit and iFixyouri’s Verizon iPhone 4's teardown:
Verizon iPhone comes with a Qualcomm "Gobi" MDM6600 wireless chip, which supports both GSM and CDMA. The Qualcomm MDM6600 chip supports HSPA+ data rates of up to 14.4 Mbps as well as CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rev. A/Rev. B.
The location and design of the RF components such as EMI (electromagnetic interference) shields, connector locations including board layout has been changed compared to the GSM iPhone 4.
Apple has redesigned the vibrator and has moved it to the bottom left corner instead of top right section of the phone.
It’s not clear why Apple did not launch a single model supporting both GSM and CDMA networks.
iFixit’s CEO Kyle Wiens speculates:
It may be that it was easier to design antennas for a CDMA-only phone—this phone supports two cellular frequency bands, while Apple supports five bands in the GSM version. But this is a sign that Apple may be considering unifying the CDMA and GSM iPhones in the future.

Once again, Apple stock (AAPL) has hit a new intra-day high and this time it's a really good one. This is the first time Apple has broken into the lofty US $350's. Things are moving quickly but when I started this post, AAPL was up 6.66 points to $353.17 on moderately high volume of about ten million shares, and no one knows where it will wind up for the day. Although the market is having quite a good day, this would indicate to me that much of the bad news and emotion has been filtered out based on the medical leave of Steve Jobs. It might also have something to do with the first delivery of the Verizon iPhone 4.
Not bad for not having Steve at the helm for now, with just a launch of a different version of the same iPhone.------

The official Gmail blog has announced that the Priority Inbox feature, which uses an algorithm to mark what it thinks are important emails in your inbox, is now available on the web version of Gmail for the iPhone. If you've set up the service to work on your usual browser, it'll now also work on Gmail for Mobile, which is up and running in HTML5 on iPhones everywhere.
I use Gmail almost exclusively for all of my email, yet aside from a short trial when it was first released, I've never really had much interest in Priority Inbox. I do a much better job of sorting my email than Google's algorithm, and I'm too worried that I'll miss something important that should have been prioritized if I depend on the formula.
But a feature is a feature, and since Gmail is free anyway, those of you who use Priority Inbox will probably be happy to see it the next time you log into Gmail from a mobile device.

A new listing for a generic "Corporate Meeting" scheduled for June 5 through 9 at San Francisco's Moscone West could prove to be a placeholder for Apple's annual Worldwide Developer's Conference.
The convention center calendar shows Sunday, June 5 through Thursday, June 9 set aside for an unnamed meeting labeled as a "convention/tradeshow." While the generic listing is no guarantee of the WWDC 2011 dates, the second half of June is booked with five different events, suggesting that Apple's annual event will occur earlier in the month.
The June 5 bloc set aside at the Moscone Center has been reserved at Moscone West, where Apple has historically held WWDC. Calendar listings have frequently served as a potential indicator for the event's date, with varying degrees of success.
This year's event is expected to feature the introduction of Apple's next-generation iPhone. Rumors of the so-called iPhone 5 have picked up steam in recent weeks, suggesting that Apple is exploring the inclusion of an RFID near-field communications chip to use the handset as an electronic wallet.
Last year's WWDC was held June 7 through 11 at Moscone West. Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs formally unveiled the iPhone 4, which would go on to become Apple's best-selling handset yet

MacRumors posts that Apple is getting rid of boxed software in its stores this morning.
Based on what we’ve heard, however, Apple is planning on making the move to all digital sooner than expected at their retail stores. Apple is working towards eliminating boxed software and presumably focusing sales through the Mac App Store.
Apple’s recent plans to start offering Personal Setup for Mac seems to be in line with that goal.
They quote this line from a previous 9to5mac post:
When you purchase a Mac at an Apple Retail store an employee will help you setup your e-mail accounts, walk you through the Mac App Store, setup an iTunes account for you, and show you the basic pointers of owning a Mac. Some stores will even have dedicated Mac setup stations.
Sure, you may ask about software that can’t be put in the App Store. Like Apple’s OSes for instance. Or Hard Drive utilities. Or Creative Suite. Or any software that doesn’t fit in the App Store for one reason or another.
That’s a good question because those products are on Apple’s store shelves now and there doesn’t appear to be a quick replacement. Perhaps we’re seeing a move to USB software installers (Which still need a physical container). With 8GB USB sticks at around $10, it may make more sense to install off of USB rather than DL-DVD, especially for the expensive stuff. Apple included an 8GB USB software reinstall stick with its Air for instance.
Either way, with USB installers or without, the change may also signal a move away from optical in Apple products…. We’ve been harping on and on about the Air growing a 15-inch screen and some more battery life to compete with the Pros in the same area.

Following our report this morning that the launch of updated MacBook Pros are imminent, we have been informed that Best Buy stores have recently placed in “Dummy SKUs” for an updated MacBook Pro line. According to the Best Buy inventory system, the new MacBook Pro line will feature an $1199 model, which is the base price for the current 13 inch MacBook Pro. This indicates that the up coming refresh will probably lack a price change.
Even more interesting is that the Best Buy inventory system is showing a March 11, 2011 release date for the upcoming MacBook Pro refresh. Although there is no way to know whether this date is absolutely correct or not, it is worth mentioning that Best Buy’s dates are traditionally a few days off. This can even represent the day Best Buy will have them in stock, versus actual announcement day. For those wondering, March 11th 2011 is a Friday.
The image above is of the purported launch date for the refresh, and the $1199 pricing figure shot is after the break.
