What is interesting about this whole debacle is how uncharacteristically quiet the THA and its new Chief Secretary Kelvin Charles remain on the matter.

Had this happened under the previous administration then leader Orville London woulda be flapping he gums non-stop... :|

Never. Scarfy go "talk" to him and that will be that. Thing is, before this he appeared to be one of the more tolerable ministers in the GORTT.

Given the uproar with Smith and Shamfa happening so close to each other I feel they have to sacrifice one to give the country the appearance of caring about mismanagement (especially in this time they trying to talk on the importance of revenue generation through taxation).

Shamfa appears to be an anointed one given they have been grooming her since her days as a Senator and Board Member so I feel Smith will be lamb to the slaughter.

I don't think the bill was that bad . Compared to the amount of overpriced contracts which are shared out . This is just as the minister described it " a storm in a teacup"

Its more a matter of why...
Why did 12 ppl go overall?
Why were three (non invited guests) added after the trip was already booked?
Why was Smith lying when initially asked about the whole thing? http://wired868.com/2017/05/24/rowley-a ... rs-claims/

Yes smitty is going through a divorce currently but the topic at hand is the Utter abuse of state funds for Personal enjoyment, they also did not need to rent cars, the ceremony was held At the Hotel, plus the airfare for these 3 additional NON staff members were charged to the State supposedly, and their stay and breakfast at the venue.
Its frigging Unacceptable.
2 ministers in less that 2 weeks have now further added $over $151,000.00 to governments Payables, at a time when government has been crying that they have no money, Schools unfinished, Necessary drugs for CDAP not available, Hospital beds not available, Cancer treatment not available... all 3 X-ray machines at Mt Hope not working, they have NO money to fix all of these NECESSARY issues, yet ministers can party, wine and dine, and go abroad for 4 days and stay on facebook, youtube and Instagram ALL day at our expense.

Lets still not forget BOTH parties do their fair share of Dishonest thievery at our expense.
Didn't some minister also Rack up a half a million Dollar stay at the Hilton Trinidad as well back in their last reign?

http://www.guardian.co.tt/archives/news ... haunts-pnm

Gas station racket
Another major corruption scandal under the PNM was the infamous “Gas Station racket,” which involved civil servant Jean Miles. Miles, who worked in the civil servant in the 1960s, implicated the Ministry of Petroleum, Mines, Industry and Commerce in wrongdoing in regard to the allocation of gasoline stations to businessmen who were leasing them from the Government. She caused a sensation by alleging corrupt practices by several high-ranking figures. And then another shake up for the PNM came when former PNM party chairman and Finance Minister Francis Prevatt was named as the person who directed Robert Baird, the MC Donnell-Douglas Corporation Official responsible for the sale of three DC-9 aircraft to now defunct British West Indies International Airways, to meet with O’Halloran who later requested ‘a commission’ of US$250,000 from an aircraft company. Several years later, PNM councillor Dhansam Dhansook raised allegations of bribery allegations against former Works and Transport Minister Franklin Khan who is before the court charged with six counts of corruption. Energy Minister Eric Williams, who was also charged with bribery, was later freed.

Piarco scandal under UNC
The United National Congress also saw themselves being voted out of office by the population with the Piarco Airport scandal, involving millions, hanging over their heads. This scandal saw former Prime minister Basdeo Panday, his wife Oma, ministers and businessmen being charged with alleged corruption. They are all still before the court.

Corruption charges

Brian Kuei Tung
1. Former Government Minister Brian Kuei Tung is before the Port-of-Spain Magistrates’ Court charged with 16 counts of corruption totalling to $1.6 billion.
2. The charged allegedly stemmed from the second phase of police investigations into the Piarco Airport development project.
3. He is jointly charged with his girlfriend and businesswoman Renee Pierre, former Airports Authority chairmen Tyrone Gopee and Ameer Edoo and former Nipdec chairman Edward Bayley.

Ishwar Galbaransingh
1. Fraudulently received US$318,000.
2. Fraudulently received US$2.1 million.
3. Galbaransingh is also jointly charged with businessmen Steve Ferguson and Amrith Maharaj for the alleged receipt of US$2.1 million by fraudulent means and conspiracy to obtain contracts valued $1.6 b

Carlos John
1. Dismisses allegations of a $52million bank account.
2. John is defeated by Tunapuna MP Eddie Hart in the October 2002 general elections.

Basdeo Panday
Panday and his wife Oma are charged with corruptly receiving 25,000 pounds Sterling. Galbaransingh and John were charged with corruptly giving the money to the Panday’s as an inducement or reward.

This is just it.......we know that both parties when they go in power allow their members to engage in activities that cost the taxpayers. However it is up to those in authority and with the power to do the investigations and make arrests and then prosecute.

Not going to go as far back as OHalloran and Galbaransingh but -
All the PNM supporters keep talking about SIS/Krishna Lalla..........is anybody (Police/DPP/BIR) doing anything to initiate legal action against him?
Similarly what was done between 2010 - 2015 to ensure at least an arrest and hopefully a prosecution of Calder Hart and or other Udecott/Genivar executives?

There is no fear on either side. I may have the power to investigate but so what if I don't?

People need to protest.

Whats the end game when protesting?

Its either we need new laws or enforcement of existing ones wrt Corruption and Capture . Protesting would bring about these?

Not just protest under a political party...But protest as citizens of this country...Wear yuh buss up clothes and make as much noise collectively so that these things we have as politicians would hear our dissatisfaction and see that we are not wearing yellow or red.

Imo, That protest on the highway didn't send a clear enough message since the government just saw a herd of yellow sheep...Just as they have their herd of red sheep.

People protested and got a mayor removed.

Lots of laws existing. Enforcement is obviously the problem. See how most drive differently now that enforcement of speeding laws started?

People only respond to fear. There is no fear of repercussions right now. Doesn't matter which side of the government one supports.
