I'll forgo the reasons why I don't care for tiktok but what I've understood from Twitter, Reddit and some YouTube commentary channels is that tiktok:

1. Didn't suppress stories like mainstream media and popular social media platforms did.

2. Tiktok's earning scheme became a source of income for many.

On the 2nd point, someone I know lost a longtime financial parasite during COVID when thenparasite caught traction locally as a vax denier and COVID conspiracy theorist. This person is the sort of uneducated lowlife that would have been passed out on a regular on a sticky table in a ketchass bar, but as long as they cussing out Terry, Fauci and Bill Gates, they pulling in followers and tiktok cash. But I digress.

I think it's likely that tiktok isn't going anywhere. Trump will "save the day," and people will rejoice and his approval rating will benefit from it. Somewhere down the line, people will notice subtle changes in tiktok similar to replacement earth in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: some people hover a millimeter off the ground, four leaf clovers are commonplace and there's no dolphins.

Yup that was quick. Tiktokers might become Trump supporters now

On the other hand the brain rot will continue. It applies to all social media apps but TT is the worst.

If only more people had this perspective.

Real sad how internet culture went from providing knowledge at our fingertips and enabling communication at an unprecedented degree, to a bunch of mental children inhaling misinformation wholesale, braying about meme wars.

I thinks it's worth reiterating that TT admitted to using the app to spy on US based journalists and lied about it when first approached with the allegations.

This is how China has won the great power game without firing a bullet.

Trump wants 50% of tiktok

Trump unveils TikTok rescue plan

President-elect Donald Trump announced plans to issue an executive order to reverse the TikTok shutdown in the US on Sunday, just hours after the popular video app went dark for its 170 million American users.

Trump said he would seek US acquisition of a 50% stake in TikTok through a joint venture, according to a post on his social media platform.

“I’m asking companies not to let TikTok stay dark!” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social. “I will issue an executive order on Monday to extend the period of time before the law’s prohibitions take effect, so that we can make a deal to protect our national security. The order will also confirm that there will be no liability for any company that helped keep TikTok from going dark before my order.”

“Without US approval, there is no Tik Tok. With our approval, it is worth hundreds of billions of dollars - maybe trillions,” he added.

The Chinese-owned app ceased operations late Saturday and disappeared from US app stores after ByteDance, its parent company, failed to meet a January 19 deadline to sell its American operations under a federal law passed last year.

The Supreme Court on Friday upheld the constitutionality of the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, which mandated the sale or shutdown, citing national security concerns.

ByteDance’s other apps, including video editor CapCut and social platform Lemon8, were also removed from US app stores.

As TikTok went offline, rival Chinese app RedNote emerged as the most downloaded free app on Apple’s App Store, with millions of Americans adopting the “#tiktokrefugee” hashtag as they switched platforms.

Trump’s planned executive order would give ByteDance a 90-day extension to find an approved buyer. TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew is expected to attend Trump’s inauguration on Monday, sources familiar with the matter said.

Neither the White House nor TikTok immediately responded to requests for comment.

Ehh better to make some noise than to have it going down the route the Libs was going.

His last term benefits to my working class friends and family and others who were heavily dependent on union negotiations were all positive.

The trickle down in the self service industry benefited a lot of the small businesses like mine with readily available and cheaper parts for me personally in the food/manufacturing side of stuff.

And even if 99% will be just talk, he has people like Vivek and Robert who might apply a 1% of change that may shake up their internal deep state a little
