Bwahaha what you fail to realize it started under the previous administration and now its finished you wanna give but one administration all the credit?

Of all the completed projects to date, which are the ones started under PNM??
Only a few...GB Interchange, couple HDC projects, perhaps the Waterfront buildings...what else?

Compare that to the countless Major projects started under the PP and completed or will be completed soon... D'Abadie bridge, Trincity BRidge, Diego HWay extension, SOuth HWay, Childrens Hospital, Upgrade to Sando teaching hospital, Aquatic centre, Countless ECC centres, NUmber of Police stations, Police bays, cable barriers, widening of SH highway, numerous landslips repaired, miles and miles of box drains and roads paved, upgrades to numerous playgrounds, Preysal Flyover upgrade, Valencia Bypass road, Caroni Bypass road, Maloney walkover, walkover close to Trincity, Charlieville walkover, miles of pavement built, upgrade to GG prison, new Licensing Authority, implementing strategies to ease congestion on the roads..eg PRice plaza roundabout, Macaulay bypass rd etc, increased visibility of police, highway patrols increased, bail out HCU and Clico, removal of vat from certain items, Increased water supply to the nation, Upgrades to the water pipeline network throughout the country, and I could go on and on.
So ppl like you should pull out yuh head from your arse and open ur eyes, and judge with an open mind.

So government dey to fix roads only?

What's UNC's economic policy? it have inflation target? GDP growth target? Diversification plan? FDI plan? Unemployment target? Taxation plan/strategy?

What UNC's CARICOM policy? Kamla said she want CCJ. But she want to keep CSME? She wanna keep de CARICOM/EU treaty?

What Kamla does say/tink for health? Building hospitals, granted. But any plan to cut obesity? Plans to regulate adverts for tobacco or booze?

UNC would be better if Kamla had some articulated strategy. She ent. DIS de issue right dey...not corruption (PNM people, allyuh tek yuh licks too for dat). Panday was better PM than Kamla, and UNC would be better if Panday stayed in 2010 and beat Manning again.

Drive through the rural areas, people finally have roads, water and electricity.

Development is about freedom and empowering people, not building a government campus no one can even occupy.

If UNC boosting the rural areas, I'm all for it.

If people wanna eat 20 doubles a day or KFC three times every day fine, it a free country/world...

But who runs de hospitals? who provides and regulates the health system? who in charge of de economy? Kamla/UNC have huge interest in ensuring people healthy, at least by education and discouraging unhealthy foods. An educational programme ent de same as Kamla personally telling yuh "doh buy fast food!"

An analogy is smoking.....many countries and even here does have health warnings and ting....same wit booze.... again, de public interest.

It sucks that tax payer's money has to be spent to treat all these people who develop lifestyle diseases later on in life due to poor diet and exercise.

Just like ppl who posting in this thread in the dead of the night, the gov't is yet again trying to hoist their un-democratic plots whilst the ppl to vote against it are on PLANNED leave. Does this raise flags :?:

Trinidad is known worldwide as a politically stable country where there is a smooth transition of power.
With this interference it will now be 15 days or more of chaos while the public is left without a government for over two weeks :|

The possibilities of what could happen in the 15 day interim are infinite. However the rail-roading and the attempt to kick een voters back door if we doh want to keep them are just obscene.

Deception is where there was no recommendation of this by the CRC and the AG says it cropped up belatedly in the consultations.
Deception is where you can be elected with less than 50% of the vote but removed with 66%
Deception is where Prakash is notably silent in all of this.
Where is the powers you think I have man?

Supporters of this are morally bankrupt and care nothing abt country only party :|

STOP THE DEBATE

Story Updated: Aug 7, 2014

CERTAIN STATEMENTS: Merle Hodge

A member of the Constitution Reform Commission (CRC) yesterday called for a postponement of Monday’s debate on the Constitution Amendment Bill, 2014 and has taken issue with certain statements by Attorney General Anand Ramlogan.

In a strongly worded statement to the Express, author, activist and retired University of the West Indies (UWI) lecturer Dr Merle Hodge described Government’s proposal for the controversial run-off ballot as “anti-democratic” and a contradiction of “the principle of proportional representation”.

On a point of accuracy, Hodge said the right of recall “did not crop up belatedly in the follow-up consultations as claimed by the AG” on yesterday’s Morning Edition on TV6.

“Recall was there from the beginning. It featured in the PP’s [People’s Partnership] manifesto (Page 15), in the main consultations around the country, and in the CRC’s report (Page 23).”

The run-off proposal, however, the most controversial aspect of the

bill, did not feature in the People’s Partnership manifesto, in the main consultations around the country or in the CRC’s report, she said.

Hodge said the run-off ballot was a mechanism and not a principle, and the CRC agreed, in the first instance, to a set of principles.

“Not every detail regarding how to implement these principles would have been worked out by members of the CRC, nor would these details have come necessarily from members of the public who participated in the consultation process,” she said. “But the CRC signed off on the whole package—principles, as well as implementation methodology. Therefore, we have to take responsibility.

“That, for me, does not mean defending tooth and nail an idea that, on deeper thought, turns out to be anti-democratic and a source of worry to citizens. I can see now that the run-off mechanism directly contradicts the principle of proportional representation which is a central recommendation of the CRC (Chapter 5 of the CRC’s report).”

Hodge said ongoing public discussion on the bill proves time is needed for more and deeper scrutiny of Government’s proposals.

“As a member of the CRC, I bear no responsibility for the timetable that has been set for taking this bill

to Parliament,” she said. “As a citizen, I register here my dismay at what seems like an episode of legislative railroading set to happen next week. The country needs a decent period for discussion on the bill and for the return of parliamentarians who are predictably absent, this being a customary time of vacation.”

Hodge said the fact there were con-

sultations could not be used to defend the specific provisions in the bill.

“The consultations were sessions of listening to the views of citizens. That was a forum for the gathering of ideas, for hearing as many voices as possible in the time available, not for the thrashing out of any specific idea. There was absolutely no focused public discussion, in that forum, on the items selected for inclusion in the Constitution Amendment Bill, 2014. This needs to happen. I add my voice, as a citizen, to the call for postponement of the parliamentary debate.”

She said while the CRC’s report contains proposals that were “constructive and far-reaching in their potential to improve governance”, these were all located at the upper regions of the governance structure such as Parliament, prime minister, president and judiciary.

“Once again, the ordinary citizen has not been properly served in the constitution reform process. I have already made known to my colleagues on the CRC my disappointment at our failure to propose anything that increases the direct input of ordinary citizens into decision-making. We have proposed no structures or

mechanisms to achieve this. The only permanent structure that people have for channelling their views upwards to the political leadership, in the hope of influencing their decisions and their behaviour, is the media.

“Popular participation in the democratic process has not been expanded one jot beyond periodically staining the tip of one of our fingers. ‘More power to the people’? I don’t think so,” she said.

She said as a member of the CRC, she took full responsibility for “the whole package (not just this selective bill) to which I gave my consent”, but added she has now benefited from the analyses presented by intelligent and aware citizens.

According the new standing orders of the parliament, the parliament suppose to be in recess until September unless there is some dire need to pass immediate legislation. Parliamentarians deserves vacation in the same manner Kamla and Spider-Man could go slinging around Rio de Janeiro.
