Members of the Fish Vendors' Association say they have made complaints to the San Fernando Mayor Junia Regrello on numerous occasions and accuse him of making empty promises.
In a protest earlier today, they are now calling on the San Fernando West MP to intervene and to listen to their concerns.
President of the Association Neil Khan says vendors also fear for their lives as there is no police presence at the wharf.
He says the toilet facilities are deplorable and fishermen have nowhere to offload their catches as the waterfront needs dredging.
However Khan says they show up everyday because they have no choice.

Faris and co are planning to start the san fernando waterfront project which cabinet approved earlier in the year. If it actually happens is a different story![]()
I guess the govt doesn't want to spend unnecessary funds in that area, even temporarily, and prefers to spend on the project itself.

The Sando Waterfront project predates Panday's administration and goes back to the 70s based on the last set of consultations that the consultants (WSP and Deloitte) had.

I went in one in Siparia a few years ago and was very impressed at how well maintained it was. At the time there seemed to be a full time guy doing cleaning and basic upkeep as well. Not sure if things have changed since then
