Very useful to have them overtly stated, pretty sure other people will be in the same position.VexXx Dogg wrote:Things to consider when buying a used bike:
Irreparable frame damage like cracks or bends
Old or worn out drivetrain components which can be expensive to replace. Shift levers, cables, derailleurs, hangers.
Condition of chainrings and rear cassette. Look for significant wear which would indicate you’ll have to change it or deal with crap shifts, chain skip or worse.
Hubs are expensive, make sure they spin freely.
Old tires can be a hazard so make sure it’s not dry rot. Couple hundred a pop for decent rubber. Tubes cheap.
Check bottom bracket for creaks, clunks or wobbles
Rim brakes easy to service but make sure it pull and releases easily and not bent or damaged
Rusted or pitted handles should be replaced
Offset all those factors against a new entry level bike
Edit: make sure you get the proper size for your height

The Trek from the pic is a very old 820. I Had a more recent 820 that i paid 3k for and traded in a year later for 1500 value. I then pickup up a used Trek 4300 for 1200.
FYI - I was willing back then to let the Trek 820 go for 1200.
Check Geronimo's and see what trade ins they have.
Also check the facebook Tnt Sports Good page.

They are now on the corner of Sutton Street and Independence Ave. On the Traffic lights. Brand new Store.
