Certified by which cycling body?

UCI/IOC level 1 &2
B.I.C.P Level 1& 2 for mountain biking.
Both internationally recognised.
Once he has UCI 1&2 he's good to go. I know Brent donkey now, was not sure if it was him that owned the shop. Hes a good guy.

I know its a MTB thread but looking for a used RoadBike to do a 8 mile commute to work daily with the taxi fair going up and all.

If anyone has one to sell or known someone feel free to email me pics and price at Pioneer5220@protonmail.com

I am not sure how durable the Fuji Sportiff 2.5 is. It is the cheapest roadbike for $4000 TT but not sure how long it would last compared to a used specialized or trek?

Should be more than enough for a daily 8/16 mile commute. Fuji's are good, I have a Fuji Nevada MTB and it is very durable, I've had it for about6 or 7 years now with only routing maintenance required.

mtb might be better for commute
you can’t go in pothole with road bike and jump off pavement etc

just put on smooth tires on mtb and you good

My 4 month old wipp.

All campy parts on Alan frame.

I rode Alan carbon frames way back in the 1980s as a Junior rider. Was one of the first riders to have a Carbon frame back then.

They have been around since the 1970s and have won world championships. Yes they are lugged and some are screwed and glued.

The most important part is that bike fit.
Local shops are mostly horrible at it.

I bought a full carbon cannondale gravel bike because I got a good deal from MCE after I had a crash and my specialized alum frame cracked. It was just before the global lockdowns which drove the price up on bikes and crashed their availability.

I say get a good quality frame and spend the $$ on the best components/groupset that you can afford. Aim for mid tier.

You don't necessarily need a road bike for a 8 mile commute. I was up to 80-100k on a mtb on main roads before I decided to switch to drop bars due to wrist fatigue. I don't like the 23/25 size on road tyres. They may be fast, but they're not very comfy for heavy people like me. The gravel allows me to run up to 700x38 tyres, but I'm dropping back down to 32c.

A good alum frame MTB (650b or 29er), decent quality components, stock tyres are fine and will last a while. You won't need commute tyres as yet. I still prefer hydraulic disk brakes, so that's a bonus if you can get it - especially if you're commuting on main roads. Predictable and stable over the lifespan.
Cables eventually get dirty, worn, stretched and it affects braking unless you service a couple times a year.

Whoever got in before the pandemic was lucky...wait times are 6month+ and prices at an all time high...

Not sure if buble will burst and flood the market with mid tier bicycles...time will tell...

Alright thanks so much for all the help folks, I have a Fuji MTB so I will just put in road tires on it, although it is a 26" tires.

I have also been contemplating buying a E-Bike conversion kit for it on Amazon. Might make for an even better commute

Got me an E-Bike Front wheel kit cost me around $1200 landed which is good considering. I am in the process of building the battery for myself , got all the 18650's, BMS, Case and in the process of capacity testing and charging the cells. Looking to do a 48V battery. Anyone out there who have done this before. let's know how it went. I certainly will keep everyone updated on the build.
So far :- Batteries -$1200
Wheel Kit - $1200
Case, BMS,Holders -$1100

Not bad at all. Price smart bikes don't last long when they get. Where are you going to be riding?
Courts had a big sale last year and I got a dual suspension huffy for just under a grand.

Didn't realise part bringing full sus mongoose.
Prices went up on these, they really raised their game.

The local mongoose dealer / distributor have mongoose hardtails for nearly double this so that's an incredibly good price.
Shimano groupset?
650b or 29er?

only saw it yesterday in chaguanas
2 on the shelf, so I grabbed one
At $3,800, it was a no brainer
The display model has a damaged front derailleur, so I expect it will be in the damaged section soon at a discount if anybody has time to stalk price smart daily or has an inside link
The good bikes don't last long in PS at all, and I've never seen anything repeated after stocks run out
When I bought my Schwinn years ago, they never restocked it
@dogg, yeah Shimano / Tourney XT rear derailleur, 29er, aluminium frame

Always hard to judge welds for penetration under paint, but they seem ok
As for the bolts and hardware, no clue how much jammin they will take but I'll prob gradually upgrade everything

just an update for the other novices here, I'm having a great time with the Mongoose bike
Couple things to note:
I haven't been able to adjust the front derailleur to the point where it can shift up to the bigger chain ring properly without holding the shifter for a couple seconds. I'll probably put on a single chain ring at some point anyway, so I'm just leaving it on the middle ring
The rear shifter is nice and smooth
It is a heavy bike at 38 lbs so doing stuff like switching to a single chain ring will save a bit of weight but don't ever expect it to feel like the mid-and high end bikes
I'll probably change the cassette as well, and go up to some bigger gears
Other than that, I've done trails three times now, putting on about 10 miles worth of trails and about 10 miles on the roads around my neighbourhood with no complaints
I've met two other riders who bought the same bike, and both are happy as well
For me personally, not a bad bike for under 4k

I find everything is expensive at the local dealer. Just about everything in store you can bring in yourself for cheaper.
That full suspension probably won't last long with any serious trail riding. Still can be a good buy depending on individual usage.

Parts is on par in my exp. I bought in a fkton of gear from bluesky, jensonusa, amazon and eBay and it worked out pretty close to prices they have in stock. Their service is top notch tho - Tinto is a boss bike mech.

I just usually buy what I need from them now and order in what they don't have. Of course I'm talking retail. If you find clearance sales and big discount deals you'll come out good online

what components specifically? Spring, pivot bolts? Would be good to know what to be mindful of
I find the spring is set too stiff and the front forks lil soft. Will take some tension off the spring and see how it handles. Will eventually upgrade the forks
