Minister of National Security Martin Joseph has given the national community the assurance that the "totally unacceptable" (record) number of homicides which occurred in 2008, would not be repeated this year.

However immediately upon giving this undertaking, Joseph revealed that thus far, the number of homicides in January, 2009 had exceeded that for the same period last year. "So far we have had as of January 21, 2009, 35 homicides as compared to 32 in 2008 and 15 in 2007," he said.
