A cool $800K for one file...

$800,000 for judges in missing files probe

The approximate provisional fee for retired Justice Rolston Nelson for his services in the probe of the missing Vindra Naipaul-Coolman case file is $500,000 and for retired Justice Stanley John it amounts to $300,000.

This was confirmed by Leader of Government Business in the House of Representatives Camille Robinson-Regis. She give the figures in response to Opposition questions about the terms and conditions agreed upon for Nelson and John to assist in the investigation of the missing case file.

Robinson-Regis said Nelson was retained by the Attorney General to advise him on all legal issues on the missing file, including whether the default judgment entered against the State can be set aside and/or appealed and to advise on the merits of any possible appeal of the decision on the assessment of damages.

Nelson was also retained to appear in court, to formulate terms of reference for an investigating team, including providing the AG’s Office with recommendations for the efficient operation of the Departments of the Solicitor General and Chief State Solicitor.

John was appointed lead investigator of that investigating team.

Robinson-Regis added: “The approximate provisional fee under discussion amounts, in the case of Mr Justice Nelson SC (Retired), to approximately $500,000 and the approximate provisional fee under discussion in the case of Mr Justice Stanley John (Retired) amounts to approximately $300,000.
