Man dancing in the rain , swept away .......

ROGER ALEXANDER was seen dancing in the rain before he was swept away by floodwaters flowing in a canal in Cocoyea yesterday morning.

Alexander, 44, removed his clothing and was dancing in the downpour, eyewitnesses said.

He later tried to cross a drain, lost his balance and was swept away by the raging waters. Eyewitnesses said Alexander, a labourer of Campbell Drive, Cocoyea had been drinking before the incident which happened around 11 a.m.

Tricia Andrew said her brother and a neighbour were cooking a pot of soup when rain started falling heavily. "I was told he took off his shirt and shoes and started dancing in the rain," she said of Alexander.

She described her brother as a free-spirited and strong person.

"It will take heavy water to overcome him," she said. Late into the evening, fire officers were still trying to find Alexander.

"They searched downstream where the canal ended but there was no sign of him," his sister said.

She said the search was continuing and that they were hoping for the best.
